I get 6 weeks with my company. I used one in my current role and am using 5 this summer. It just so happens I got a new job in a brand new dept. I told her as soon as she offered me the job that I would be out most of the summer

My thoughts are there's no reason for a man to take off 8 weeks when his wife has a baby

A buddy of mine is at a very unionized steel plant in the northeast. They get 12 weeks. His wife took hers and then he took his. Basically allowed them to always be with the baby for 5 months or so.

He loved it.

Don't volunteer anything. That being said, interviewers will use code like "tell me about yourself ." "Tell me about your family and home life". If you don't know how to dance around that question and simply do not answer , that could be a negative .

Any job where you get 8 consecutive weeks off means you are non-essential personnel.... I'll see you back on this board seeking career advice when your company decideds they need to trim the fat and you're laid off
