Negotiating used vehicles on the phone

I've been trying to replace my truck for the past few weeks. One thing I've been running into is dealerships that aren't local not really wanting to negotiate via phone/email. It's always been "when can you come in." I try to explain that I'm a long distance customer and want to do some negotiating over the phone but must keep telling me the online price is the best price they can give which I don't believe. Any suggestions?

I dealt with this. Just be patient. Let them know you're willing to travel and find the best price. Send them a link to a comparable vehicle in another location.
Just like you need to be okay with walking away from a lot. Be okay giving them your information and telling them to call/email back when they want to negotiate.

That's what I've been doing. Luckily I'm in a position to where I don't need anything ASAP so I'm willing to wait for the right deal.
I gisss I'm not very patient and just ready to get it over with you need to start that business up so I can pay you to do this for me

Talk to the internet manager or fleet manager, for one thing.
It's up to you to start negotiating with an offer. No one in sales is going to give you a "better price" without one.
The last three cars I've bought have been long distance via phone & email. It takes finding the right salesman, plenty are either behind the times or lazy.

Yep. Had plenty that didn't call back, reply to email, or even bother to wiggle off their price when I told them I was going to buy the other vehicle.
Miraculously they all called me in the last 10 days as their vehicles are still on the lot and they've dropped the price.

What are you looking for, if you dont mind me asking?
Our internet team has a set price on new vehicles (like so much above or below invoice, set by owner). But used cars, they say come in and see car and negotiate from there. They get paid for customer that shows on lot, so obvious this tactic does have more success to get you in, than if they give you discount but you have better price elsewhere, so they would rather have a chance of you showing than 0%. That is how most, if not all, internet/bdc departments are set up.

Mostly F150's got to be crewcab, but I'd also consider other similar makes

I have bought my last 4 vehicles long distance and over the phone. I was very patient on my searches as I knew exactly what I wanted and the number I wanted to pay. Some people wouldn't deal with me, but I ended up getting what I wanted in the end. Just keep searching and trying to find someone who will work with you (assuming you are throwing out reasonable numbers).
