I figured a few of you young, bright professionals might be able to help this ole guy out. Need to do a relatively simple MC analysis and looking for the best way to do that - preferably with an inexpensive add-in for XLS. (By simple, I mean that it will not be part of a complex financial model or involve a long-time series of data or anything like that, but more like the study of 5-8 variables on one dependent variable, each potentially with different distributions, etc.)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts if you have 'em.

Many of the online sites (sharebuilder, merrilledge, etc.) have tactical calculator tools that run the MC as part of an program/planner. You have to open an account, but you don't have to fund it. Hope that helps.

That's right in R's wheelhouse.
( R website)

Steep learning curve at first, but if you can visualize problems like "the study of 5-8 variables on one dependent variable, each potentially with different distributions, etc.)" easily, you won't have any real problems learning it, and it will likely become one of your favorite tools.

Thanks for the suggestions. After a brief bit of searching, I ended up going with an XLS add-in called RiskAMP. It allows a free, 30-day trial and supports various different distributions for the independent variables, plus pretty simple auto-charting of variables, etc. Seems to fit the bill for this short-term project.
