So I have a pretty good gig where I am as a sys engineer. I wear shorts flip flops, work from home if I need yadda yadda. Making almost 6 figures. really nothing to complain about.

I have an interview with Google for a contract to hire gig. Question is, is it worth the risk of a contract to hire opportunity? It would be a $23.00 per hour raise. So quite a bump in pay. I know but I'm torn as to whether I should even consider this as I would be leaving a good gig.

Thoughts?

After paying self-employed taxes, insurance and losing any 401K you might be getting, $23 extra per hour might not be a huge jump in pay. Having Google on your resume will look nice in the future though.

Sorry, I forgot to add I'd be a W2 on the recruiters insurance. That takes the sting out.

I wouldn't leave a job I was happy at unless it's to work for yourself.

I've moved around in my company a good bit and even just moving departments can be the difference between wanting to jump off a cliff and loving your job.

I have several friends who have job hopped because they were chasing more money and they wish they wouldn't have.

If you are really on the fence about it, I would talk to management about where you are before you make a hard decision.

I'm in northern Virginia and know quite a few people that have worked at Amazon as employees and on a contract basis.

They tend to churn the contract people and dump them when projects are completed. Not sure about Google but I'd be leery if they are offering pay above scale. It could be short term work.

Best of luck to you.
