But to be perfectly honest, when applying for the SUI Number with LWC Online, I think I've had a total of two instances when the rate was above 1.96%. Almost all are 1.83-1.87% if you apply for it correctly and work with the state to get the lowest rate.
Good to know. When it comes time to actually hire an employee and do all the account set up, I just let whoever the payroll provider is do it. I don't do payroll and I beg, plead, and demand that my clients don't do it all on their own either (although I have a few that use the payroll options in QuickBooks, but they are all clients that are very small and I never have tax or accounting issues with them). I can't tell you the last time I or any of my staff applied for payment accounts.

I wish everyone would do that. It's so much better for everyone involved when I'm able to just apply for SUI and State and not have to call the State to fix any errors. Definitely a good call to outsource that headache from the start!

The employer taxes would be:
1) Payroll employer share - 220 x 7.65% = $16.83
2) Fed Unemployment: 220 x 0.08% = $1.76
3) State unemployment - varies... but the base rate is 2.05% in Louisiana, so 220 x 2.05% $4.51.
So total of about $23.10.
LSUHouston,
$23.10 employer taxes +
$16.83 employee withheld taxes
$39.93 total
????
no fed income tax withholding on the first $200 either.
