Johnson O'Connor Testing

I just hit 40 and I'm looking to start career number two and hopefully keep it until retirement. The company I used to work for routinely sent people HERE for aptitude testing. Their theory is that if you are doing something you are good at, then you are more apt to enjoy it.
I'm curious if anyone has done this before or had another alternative to Johnson O'Connor. My college freshman will be taking the assement with me so she can figure out what she wants to do as well.
TIA.

It was a long time ago when I did a career assessment starting college. It suggested I would be a good fit for accounting so I took a few classes. I can still say today that without question there is no subject I despise more than accounting, you may have better luck.

Insightful. Any alternatives you'd recommend for career selection? Trying to avoid doing something that I hate.

With all due respect, you're 40 years old, you should probably have an idea of what youre good at and enjoy. You've had 22 years to see what other people are doing, how they like their jobs, the work/life balance with various jobs and how you might see yourself fitting in with that.
I am struggling a bit as well figuring out what to do with the rest of my life but an aptitude test isn't going to tell me anything I don't already know. Work/life balance is the single most important thing to me so I would try to find something that fits in your expectations in that area.

I tend to agree with the previous poster, unless you've had very limited job experience over the past 20 years. Now, if you've been totally stay at home & involved only in childcare/home-keeping & related activities, you might find an aptitude test helpful. But most folks with 20 years in the work force aren't going to find any life-guiding results in a career assessment.
