I haven't had any issues with HSABank.

it is all pre tax. just take care of it when you file your taxes. nothing special about it. you can fund pre tax on your own or through your employer if that setup is available.

I'm converting to an HSA in November. Kicking myself for not having known about them prior to January.

HSABank.

I haven't looked really in a year or two, but when I switched to them about 2 years ago they seemed to be far and away the best as far as lowest fees and best investment options.

I fund it a little bit now.

Employer fine print says $3300 max contribution per year and $6600 for a family.

piggybacking on this topic, but does anyone have a recommended bank to setup the HSA with?

I just have my HSA checking setup with my Credit Union I bank with as our primary. Makes moving the money around to cover expenses easy...so I'd look into whoever you bank with primarily. But as I asked earlier, once I build up the checking-base I'll likely start siphoning off some to a more robust investment entity.

The local bank who my employer uses for my HSA does not allow you to invest any of the money in the fund. Actually no one at the bank had any knowledge that it could be done.

I'm in the same boat. I had no idea you could invest HSA funds until I read this thread. I'm now looking to rollover my HSA to a different HSA provider. Anybody done this? A quick google search says you only have to fill out a form to transfer existing funds. I guess from that point its just a matter of informing my employer that I will no longer contribute to their HSA directly out of my paycheck. I'm assuming institutions like HSA Bank allow you to set up some type of recurring monthly deposit from a checking account?

Wouldn't you want to do it off paycheck though? Because it's pre-taxed.

I don't think I will be able to if my employer doesn't offer an HSA with HSA bank. I'll still get the tax benifits when I file my taxes, I just won't get them upfront. I'll be able to take a deduction on any contributions made with after-tax dollars.

HSA Bank HSA account is no different than any other bank account, I'm pretty sure any and all employers may use it. Its no different than any other direct deposit situation, you simply manage the account yourself. So your employer deposits whatever amount you ask them to into your HSA Bank account no different than if it was a savings or checking (its just pre-tax).

I use my HSA Bank debit card to pay for anything medically related. Its another card to carry, but its very easy.

No, that's just one option. That is just their name. No different than Bank of New Orleans as an example, there's plenty of other banks there.

I'll have to check with HR on this. I was under the impression that if you wanted to contribute to an HSA directly from your paycheck you had to have the HSA account with whatever bank your employer offered. I'll ask if they can do direct deposit to any bank.

Got it. And yeah I definitely have an HSA option and fund it currently. But I may up the ante knowing that there's benefit to keep a surplus in there.
