when the market is doing well (like it currently is) it can give a investor a strong sense of security into believing that we have everything figured out (like a good round of golf) - when its best to take advantage of a bull market and just not screw everything up.

I lost nearly half my savings during the .con bust bc I was 100% stocks. I'm not doubting your plan, just passing on advice.

Doing great. At this rate since Trump was elected I will retire with 3-4 times as much money than what I previously planned.

This being on the OT is a sign that a significant drop is going to occur in the next three months.

Unless you sold at the downturn you didn't lose a dime, that is why you don't try to time the market over the long term, it will decline, and it will recover. I am retired and still 100% invested in equities as I have been for 40 years. I endured the crash of 1987, the dotcom crash, 9/11, 2008 crash, and still managed very good returns over the long term.

My father and I had the unfortunate situation over the years of being both up and down.
In 1987, he was rather disgusted of the “black friday” situation (or whatever it was called) so he got out the market. I rode the market out (I had considerably less to loose than he did)- anyway he had a difficult time timing his re-entry into the market. In a nut shell my returns were significantly better because I just rode the market out and made a few adjustments.

Since October 31 2016 to October 20 2017, according to Vanguard, my return on investment is up 536%.

I am not even tired of winning yet.

Edit: to be clear this is just the return growth

My 401k value (including my contributions, employee match, and growth) is up 48.67% over the same time frame. Which is still wild.

Guessing when to get in and out of the stock market for most people is a tried and true way to invest!

I am sure everyone likes the way their 401k is looking right now unfortunately the law of average will eventually kick in. The idea is to beat it.

How old were you? I just feel like I might as well be 100% stocks until I’m 35 or so.. I can see myself working until 65.
