40x (monthly rent-before tax income) is a good barometer for the absolute max you can afford. With that said, you would be much better off finding a room mate and getting a 2BR. If I was you, I would do everything I can to not go above $900/mo making $58k. I would think in Dallas you can find a pretty decent 2br for $1800/mo.

Please do not live in Addison... Would you rather drive/uber to uptown every weekened or just live in uptown? Those ubers will add up.

Either live in uptown preferably near access to the Katy trail or near Knox Henderson especially if you are working downtown

Get an apartment lease locator. They offer their services for free to you.

Addison is not good for you unless you work up in the Shops at Legacy.

ETA: Addison is terrific for a different phase of life. More of a 30s crowd.

I would like to have it. I've talked to a service like this a couple of weeks ago, but they said it was too early and call back closer to when im moving.

I have always heard that the rule of thumb for rent is no more than 20% of annual income. With that in mind, Look at some of the places on the northern part of McKinney ave. Not the newest places, but most are under $1000 for a 1 bedroom. You can also easily be under $1000 in The Village, which is a little further north from downtown, but is very convenient to the Dart rail, which is a 10 minute ride into downtown. My sister rides that to work every day in downtown. Also, cut the cable cord unless you are a serious tv junky and get one of the internet tv services (Sling, PS Vue, etc).
