How many exemptions to claim?

Ok, I'm starting a new job Monday. Wife and I just had twins a couple months ago, now 3 kids total. We both work, and have the same income minus the fact that I will be covering all the kids with my health insurance plan.
So what's the number? She claims 2 and I claim 2? Trying to keep as much money in our checks as possible without underpaying. Kids are freaking draining the bank account.

I think the total claims has to add up. I could be wrong but I thought if you had 3 kids then it had to be a combo to add 3 at most
Maybe I just made all that up
Eta and claiming 0 would give you least in check right? Where you may get a sizeable refund at tax season

You can back into your withholding exemptions with IRS Publication 15

I'm not sure how tax savvy you are but everything I mention can be found with a quick Google search.
Figure out your total household income.(less any insurance and 401k contributions)
Less the standard deduction. (If you itemize then it won't be as simple)
Less personal exemptions. (5)
This should give you a good estimate of your taxable income.
Look up 2017 tax brackets and figure out your tax liability. (This is roughly what you will owe come tax time.)
Go to paycheck city's website and you can plug in your pay and benefit information and play around with the withholdings.
If you get one of your wife's check stubs first you can figure out how much she gets withheld and then back into what you'll need to withhold from your checks.
This is what I do anytime my wife and I have some type of change. Hope this helps.
