What is the best way to book flights with these pernts? I'd like to plan a trip for Christmas/New Years to a tropical location. Last time I booked through amex directly, I fell I did not get them most out of it.

I'll probably add another 50,000 points before the end of the year, FWIW.

I'm points ignorant, so please enlighten me. TIA

Log into your account and go to membership rewards or you can call them.

You'll probably get a better value if you transfer them to a partner airline.

Choices for a tropical location (I read that as Caribbean) are BA Avios (to book a flight on American), Delta or JetBlue. I think Delta may be the best option though I admit that Delta is not my airline of choice out of Dulles.

this is what I've heard. So I transfer the points to, say, Delta skymiles account, and book through them?

Ideally you would wait until there is a good transfer bonus going on for one of Amex's partners. Occasionally they will offer a 25% bonus or something along those lines if you transfer MR points to a certain airline. That is when you get the most bang for your points.

If you transfer your Amex points to Delta miles, it will be a 1:1 transfer but you also have to pay a fee per points transferred so it's actually less.
