I have tried craigslist and so far no bites. I thought it would be a slam dunk, even though I know the economy is shitty. Am asking $8k for a 2003 Nissan Altima SE with 111k miles. NADA blue book is $8500. I would have to get at least $7k otherwise may just keep it. I don't want to give it away is what I am saying.

I have leased a new car and probably in hindsight should have just traded it in.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Kelly Blue Book has it as worth a little lower.

I'd lower my price if I really wanted to sell it.
I know you may think it's in excellent condition, but none is going to pay excellent price on an Altima.

I used NADA. I have already lowered it once and I know there will be some negotiating done, so leaving it where it is for now.

Damn 7k is a lot for an 8 year old car with 100k+ miles, IMO. But you may get lucky and find the right buyer. My parents sold a 2002 Camry (base with no options) with 220,000 miles for $4450, so I guess it's possible.

On the Carmax side, we have a family friend who sold her 2005 Corvette to Carmax. In my opinion she got ripped off. They didn't give her close to trade-in value. I guess you pay for 'convenience?'

Well I am going buy what the blue book value is, so it may be high but it is what it is. You can't get a new car anymore for $10k, barely even $15K these days. Car has no issues at all, so I think $8K is a good deal and still below the blue book.

If I can't find any takers, may try Carmax. If I don't like the offer, then I can pass.

Carmax will frickin rip you off. I once tried to sell them a car that was worth $12k trade in value per blue book and the frickers offered me $9k. Sold the car 4 days later to a private buyer for $12.5k on Craigslist. Being patient paid off. I will never deal with them again. They put themselves on a pedestal with their no haggling price bullshite. Anybody who sells to them or buys from them is just getting ripped off.

ETA: @Weaver - please come back and tell us how much carmax offered for your car. I bet it will be $6-6.5k max.

Hey won't offer him $6k on an 8 yo Altima. All they are going to do is look at what 8 yr old Altima's get at auction and offer less than that.

Ask $7995 - it's a mind thing. Most people will think they paid $7900 instead of $8000.

you are going to have it for sale a long time at that price, NADA doesn't mean much in this economy

Carmax will probably offer about 4k because of the mileage. It will be harder for Carmax to move it off the lot, because of the high mileage.

So what should I base it on. I looked on ebay and autotrader and similiar cars are listed for the same price.

Like I said, no issues. Yes car has over 100k, but it is an 9 year old car(sold in 2002). Average miles per year is 12k, so according to my math, that would be 108K, so it has average miles.

I don't want to give it away. Lowest I would take is $7500, which i think is reasonable.

I sold a Honda CRV to Carmax about 3.5 years ago. They afforded me about $1000 more than I was expecting so I took it.

I was very happily surprised with the offer.

Carmax probably won't sellthat vehicle. They will just send it to auction.

Lower your price to 7500 and take 7000, and that is only if your car is truly in excellent condition, which everybody claims there car is and few actually are. The 8500 you are looking at is dealer retail, and you ain't getting that. I am sure you tried to trade it it and balked at the 5500 they offered you and carmax ain't going to be much better

I know you keep saying "well if I don't get this, then I'm not selling it". I hope u do realize that the longer you hold it, what you consider a shite offer now is what you will be begging for.

That's kinda odd. You are going to hold on to a car you don't need doing so in which it will depreciate even more--- Not to mention paying insurance on it.

Car is paid off, I know the history and will keep it up for sale till I get what I want. How hard is that to figure out. If you don't like it, then move along.

Sorry I can't accept that. Surely you are still going to carry collision on the car even if it payed off. Or maybe you just like taking risks.
