OH, let me tell ya about the damn customized resume that he does for each job he applies for...I think it's a waste of time but anyway. He researches the company to learn about it and he tailors his resume to the job description b/c he has so much experience in different areas. No one wants to read through all the "stuff". Therefore, he isn't a pro or expert at any one
thing but is competent at lots of things. That's why I think staying in his job so long has hurt him. And many on this thread are saying call managers and be aggressive but I challenge anyone to find TWO (direct) phone numbers to a hiring manager. There's not easy access to a manager out there, especially for a large company. And remember, he hasn't had to look for a job in 15 years (rusty?). He's done linkedin and all the other reputable sites. I'm not sure of his salary requirement but he definitely wants fair pay given his experience and education.

ETA: Do you have the names of the small companies that you reference in your post? That would help him when looking.
