Lowe's has a credit card that says it gives 5% off, but not on everything.

Yesterday for one of my rental houses, I bought two ceiling fans and some miscellaneous repair parts. The 5% only applied to the parts, not to the fans, so I saved a whopping 26 cents.

We just use the Chase Disney card. Get points to spend at Disney of course. With a 2.5 yr old and one about to pop out, Disney will be a frequent destination.

I've always cashed out my points on Amex for home depot gift cards. Always used them towards a bigger purchase item. Refrigerators, riding lawn mower, stuff like that. Next up is a grill.

From what I have read on other forums, 1pt is worth more than $.01. People who know how to use miles/points/transfer bonuses always say they would gladly buy as many points as possible for 1 cent each.

They say to always take the points over 1% cash back.

I prefer my Discover Card cash back. They run 5% cash back for certain categories in three month intervals. Plus, if you buy through their online portal you can get 5-20% cash back. Most of the major stores on there so it really adds up.

You can get cash or gift cards. Typically the gift cards are $50 for only $40 out of your cash back bonus..

My interest rate is only 7.99% (they reduced the rate for signing up for electronic billing and auto payment - not sure if they still do that).
