I've been a one man operation for almost 5 years now and I've been consulting part time for a prominent nurse staffing agency.

I've been successful enough that they have grown from 300 nurses nationwide to 1800. However working full time as a CRNA, and doing this on side, the work is mounting. (They currently own 5% market share and I'd assume they are pulling down 150 million in revenue)

I reached out to a firm in BR for direction but they didn't even give me the time of day. Depressing cause I actually know the guy who started it.

At this point, I'm seeking direction. I need to expand to more employees but I don't really have the business acumen to structure it. I bill 1099 now and solo my gig is up to 40k on about 10 hrs per week, if I expanded I could get someone probably 15k for 5 hrs per week and me another 5 grand.

Anybody got any ideas of a Louisiana business that could guide me in negotiating this contract?

How much of this staffing agency success is the result of your input/guidance etc? Just coming from a different angle, but maybe you have the goods to start your own staffing agency. What kind of non-compete type language is in the contract you have with this company?

I'm confused, you are looking to add someone to your consulting practice to help you with the consulting work?

If you bring someone in to help you, then that person is likely going to be an employee of yours, so you will have payroll tax reporting to handle.

As far as how to find someone, It seems to me you would look for another person with a similar background to yours in nursing, and who would enjoy this different angle of it. IF you have that many nurses around, you should have the contacts to find someone.

Another option is that I believe UNO has a MBA program with an emphasis on Health Care management, so you may be able to contact UNO and they can send you some resumes of their students and recent grads.

I'm not looking for talent.... I have the talent.

I'm looking for a business that excels in contract negotiation and consulting rates.

My expertise is in nurse counseling, rework assessments, risk assessment, and dealing with healthcare administration.

I don't want to run a staffing agency.....the company I work for is great and has unlimited resources and business relationships, jcaho gold seals....etc

What I need is a structure and a contract expert to seal the deal. Currently I'm 1099 but if went to the table providing a more broad service as a FIRM, with the relationship I have with the CEO I know he would bite. He loves me and he knows I've been an integral part of his companies success. He understands my value and he has always rewarded me when we meet goals.

He is also a guy that is very "plan oriented." He needs to see the vision and the cost and what he'd be paying for. I don't have he time to create that and I'm looking for a company that can create that plan.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity. I wish I could provide some good LA references but I live in SC! You might want to talk to your accountant or any accountant friend/family you know and see if they have some ideas. An accountant with a diverse client base of businesses likely has connections/resources that could provide some good leads. Also, as much as I hate dealing with attorneys, if you can find one that does corporate work on things like operating agreements, contracts, service agreements etc, that might help get the ball moving for you. Best of luck.

I think you have two needs here.

1) You need help structuring yourself as more than just a guy with a name... you want to have the look and image of a firm. You also need help with what I call the "vision and mission thing"

For this, reach out to SCORE in Baton Rouge.

SCORE BR

2) You need help negotiating a contract with your current client.

SCORE can help you with the general terms and path, and you need an attorney skilled in contract law to help you write the contract.

Did you just call or email? Sometimes a quick cup of coffee goes a long way.

For the same type of services? When I worked there, I sent clients to SCORE as well. It's just a real good group for this kind of stuff. Especially when you are starting out.

There are lots of consultant firms in Houston but they probably would view you as too small a client.

If you need financial help I do have a CPA there that deals with a lot of small business, but I don't think he would be much help for strategic planning.
