170 million points will fly you anywhere.

Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian, who doesn't exactly struggle to afford a plane ticket, can now likely fly free, in first class, with his whole family, anywhere in the world, for the rest of his life.

Of course, he has a Centurion Black card. There's a reason behind it:

quote:

China allows its citizens to transfer no more than $50,000 out of the country in any year, and using his card could help him get around this limit because he's just paying back American Express or the bank in China who issues his card.

Does China not allow a billionaire to fly in their airspace in a gulfstream?

Does he have $170M liquid cash to pay it off the next month?

Even though he is worth $1.4B, a $170M painting feels like a lot.

Sure, but he can resell the painting in the US circumventing exchange controls, fly to the US with his family and never worry about Chinese corruption police again. Or anything else for that matter.

The list is part of "Sky Net", an initiative China unveiled in March to coordinate its fight against suspected corrupt officials who have fled overseas and to recover their ill-gotten assets.

Someone in the Chinese gov liked the Terminator movies and, I guess, appreciated the machines' form of "government".
