Interested to hear your thoughts on how it goes. You're taking Level 2 right?
Posted on 6/3/09 at 5:10 pm to kfizzle85
yeah, level II. According to my results on the sample exams provided online by the CFA Institute, I'll be taking level II again next year

I'm about to start my practice exam. I'm about to start taking my practice exam. I'll report back on the damage.
Are you the guy that interned there and started working full time after graduation from MBA school?

well, there are actually two of us here that fit that description. I got my mba back in '05, and there is a guy here in the office that just graduated with his MBA last month and just started full-time. We both interned here.

I'm in the middle of FARE. I just got finished the bonds and leases lecture, and my head is about to explode.

I'm thinking of the other two guys.
I'll be in your office tomorrow around 3 to talk with Troy. Throw up your TD.com money board gang sign if you see me.

Roughly speaking, how much time would you say you've spent studying (for the various parts), and over what period of time? Just curious.

Ethics - 25 hours
Quant - 75 hours
Econ - 10 hours
Acct - 125 hours
Corp. fin.- 25 hours
Equity - 25 hours
Fixed inc - 25 hours
Deriv. - 15 hours
I really sucked at quant when I started (LSU has terrible ISDS teachers) and Accounting was just a brutal read. Those two were also the first two things I knocked out, so there was a learning curve on how to approach the material. I also made a lot of note cards for those.
I figure between TS's classes and the other general material I covered, I probably have another 100 hours or so under my belt. Anyone who can only study for 250 hours and truly cover all of the material in those books is pretty amazing.

Gotcha. Did you do all that during school, and did you buy the Stalla stuff?
ETA: I concur on the ISDS, and I hate that shite to begin with. Bob Herbert and his left hand can die.

Didn't buy any Stalla stuff, but I have some old schweser stuff that I'm going to go over tomorrow and Friday.
Okay, I'm starting the Exam right now.
I'll see you guys at midnight.
ETA: I had Herbert too. I stopped going to his lectures after the first few classes and tried to just learn it from the book (why LSU has to print their own edition of books is beyond me. They always suck), which was pretty much just enough to get me a B in the class. His constant mental breakdowns (over him not being able to derive a basic stat formula) in class would stress me out so much that I had to go to the driving range and take some fury out.

I did the exact same thing.
ETA: And of course, good luck to both of you.

Damnit, it's a PDF. I was hoping it was timed so that I wouldn't keep posting on here.
Ohhh. Well.....
Kfizzle, if I remember correctly, you are starting your MBA in the fall as well? Are you taking the CFA exam on Saturday?

Naw I'm taking the Financial section of the CPA in early July, and starting grad school for a M.S. in accounting in August. I'm hoping to get FARE and REG (tax) done this summer, and the entirety of the CPA done by the end of October. I'm going to try and take Level 1 next June.

Who puts that on? Is it a designation/continuing ed thing?
