Car Insurance Question

I am switching jobs and giving up my Fleet vehicle, so I will be without a car. A friend of mine has an extra truck that he doesn't drive because his company has provided him with a fleet vehicle. I am going to pay him to use his car for a few months until I purchase one. Do I need to get separate insurance on his vehicle? Or does he need to add me to his current policy? Thanks in advance.

I did this years ago with the intent to buy. I had a lawyer draw up a document saying it was a lease with an option to purchase. Had it notarized, brought it to my insurance agent and got a separate policy. Peace of mind that I was protected.
