SSW (Seaspan Corporation) maybe. It's a deep sea freight company, and deep sea freight has been hurting with a slow global economy. If the global economy picks up, they should do well. They've got a lot of debt, but tangible book value is $17 and dividend yield is > 10%. Shares are currently just under $14. I expect the dividend to get cut some, but the yield would still be really good. Do some research to see if there are risks I'm not seeing and to decide if you're comfortable with it.
How did I miss this gem.
No risks

Just curious, how'd you do in reading comprehension in school?

I'll admit I briefly read through your post and skipped to the end. Suggesting a single publicly traded stock for the best thing to do with $2000 for 5-10 years is ridiculous. Come on, now.

Then read my last reply to southernelite, please. I've already pointed out the hypocrisy of criticizing me but not the two people who suggested AAPL. I also never said nor implied to go all in, and I definitely said to research before deciding yay or nay.
I'm catching flak because I brought up a company people aren't familiar with. The downvotes and comments I've received point to that when you consider the AAPL posts. Seriously, considering the volatility of the tech industry, which would you rather hold for 5-10 years: a company with barriers to entry and guaranteed revenues but is struggling due to a sluggish global economy, or an established tech giant that's been failing to live up to its reputatuon as an innovator? Personally, I wouldn't feel good about going in blind with either without research first.

Suggesting any stock--AAPL or yours--is ridiculous. I think we're just all pointing this out for the OP as I don't think he is a savvy investor

No risk no glory. But have fun mapping out a 10 yr, $250 ROI

quote:No argument there. My main point is that if I actually received downvotes and negative comments for saying to throw it all into one stock or fund, then the AAPL posts should have drawn similar criticism. Since that didn't happen, then people have a different problem with my post. SSW being an unfamiliar company is my only guess.

I've got no problem with being wrong. If someone would have posted that, for example, SSW lost a major customer or something, then I'd have appreciated that. It's conducive to discussion. What's not conducive to discussion is that brigade of downvotes. Apparently, people have a problem with my post, but they don't even know why well enough to articulate the issue. I'd rather discuss than anonymously downvote.

Don't take down votes so seriously.

Yeah, why invest in something that's up 81% in the past 2 years.
Hog on the hill, a thread always has at least one idiot. You win.
