I've got cash sitting in checkings and am looking to do something with it. Catch being that I will definitely be spending the money over the next 12 months. What's your recommended vehicle? I'm looking at high yield savings but it's only 1%. Anything better that I should consider?

Find a bank that has a rewards checking program. A Kasasa account may be offered by a bank in your area LINK. I use St. Martin Bank and get 3% on up to $10K in checking and 1% on up to $50K in savings. Not the best returns but it's guaranteed if you hit the monthly qualifiers and there is zero risk.
