Been with AAA more than 10 years and I have just been lazy to shop around. Just wondering what are some good options for home and auto insurance these days? AAA gives multi-policy discount and I am assuming most other companies do as well? I recently also something in the mail from Costco asking me to get my auto and home insurance through them. Does Coscto offer good rates and anybody have any experience with them?

The people at enterprise said State Farm and Geico are the best to deal with. Probably half of enterprise's business is renting cars to people who just got in a wreck.

USAA is the best in the business. Also, the ability to have other financial accounts with them (zero atm fees!) can be a benefit.

Just swapped to geico for our vehicles. Rates 40% less than what I was paying at farm bureau

I'm in the market too for both. SF for the last 9 years. When I needed to file a claim, no response until I sent a nasty email to my agent. Scumbags and have heard they notoriously don't pay out.

I’ve had nothing but a great experience with Travelers. I know they’re not the cheapest but you do get what you pay for.

USAA if you qualify - the premiums are often slightly higher than the competition, but they more than make up for it when you need it.

Other than that I can tell you to stay away from AllState for home insurance - source: my cousin was an appraiser for them who traveled to all of the natural disasters.

Just went through the same process. Was with State Farm. Never had a problem with them honestly, just kept raising rates despite no wrecks or tickets.
I've had progressive and Geico and Allstate.

Did not like Allstate at all, poor service and high rates, though that was 15 years ago.

I"ve had progressive for Auto. They were great with service but the rates kept going up.

I'm now with Geico, again. They beat state farm rates by a lot. Their homeowners partner is Occidental in St. Tammany, anyway. And they are highly rated, had great rates. We'll see about their service.

They say the smartest thing to do is frequently change your car insurance. Otherwise, whoever you have is just going to keep quietly raising your rate until one day you realize it.

This is my experience. My broker and I shop mine out every year when it comes time to renew.

I bundle home and auto with state farm. I've used an insurance broker to shop around and he said he couldn't even come close to the auto rates I currently had. He did find lower homeowners but then I would lose my bundle discount with state farm and the difference I'd have to pay made it more expensive than what I already have.

You should log in to the Costco site and check what they have to offer. I switched my auto insurance from Progressive to Connect (the company that Costco partners with) and saved bigly (with more coverage). Connect is owned by American Family Insurance out of Wisconsin.

I don't know if it is worth paying the premium on their homeowners. You would be surprised on how expensive they are if you shop their prices. Their car insurance is almost always the best bet. I bank with them for my everyday checking. their investments suck, go with anyone else.

I just saw that my (USAA) homeowners renewal was paid- over $2k for a 2750sf house, which seemed extremely high to me. I just price checked our auto with State Farm, and it was about the same with comparable coverages.

Hijack (sort of)- what coverages do you carry on auto? We've had 300/300/500 so that we could add the umbrella policy, but I'm considering backing off that a little. I know that any one accident could easily cost that much or more, so I don't know if it's worth it to save a few bucks a month in the event we are involved in an accident

Any more info on them? I'm having trouble finding anything on the google.

$2kish for a house that size would be an extremely good deal where I’m located.

If you drive most of your miles in LA, don’t back off on the auto coverage.

Shelter insurance hooked me up for both hurricanes last year. Have zero complaints about them.

Deposited $2k into my account on the day of landfall for both hurricanes. That was to cover anything I needed during evacuation.

DO NOT use FARMERS period...my mom made one claim on her house and was dropped after 35 years..
They have just returned to the Louisiana market but would not use them for home of auto insurance...one claim in 35 years of paying on time every month and they dropped her...
