Soon, I will be going through the whole engagement, wedding planning, and wedding process. I know the cost for all of this can be overwhelming. So, I am trying to find a good credit card that can help me pay for some of this. I currently have two cards that are just basic credit cards from my credit union with smaller caps. ($2,500 max)

I am having trouble figuring out what type of card would be best for this situation. I plan to pay everything off pretty quickly, say within a year or so. Is a rewards card best or maybe something interest free within the first year? Anyone else applied for a card for the same reasons?

TIA

If you are considering carrying a balance at all, get an introductory card with no interest. (I'd never do this personally, but to each his own).

If you want this for the rewards, get a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, hit the minimum spend, and get the bonus points that you can use to transfer to travel partners for the honeymoon.

And yes, I applied for multiple cards for the same reasons. I got one credit card specifically to pay for the rehearsal dinner, because I knew I'd hit the 3k spend threshold on that one purchase and wanted an additional 60k bonus points.

Are you planning on making any big purchases soon, like a house or car? You may want to take it easy on credit applications, they can negatively affect the rate that you get on those types of loans, potentially costing you thousands of dollars.

Yeah, we may be selling my home and moving in that time frame. Would it be smarter to have my SO apply for the card?

Are you going to be buying a new house?

Someone else can correct me if I am wrong, but they will look at past credit history on both of you. If you are buying a new house together, it wouldn't do any good for the SO to open a card instead of you.

I'm all for credit card churning, but if you are buying a house, don't open new lines of credit. You want that rate as low as possible.
