Direct future up big...

Seems like all the talk these days is about M&A

I'm all for free market, but god I hope the FCC/Justice department shuts this shite down. Directv is by far the best provider/customer service out there and AT&T is tied as the worst with Comcast.

This really does suck. The big telecom companies are trying to take over the internet. This is a sad day for America. Just think how bad it would be if AT&T would have been able to buy T-Mobile.

Won't happen. Directv doesn't need AT&T

They are having one of their best years ever and continue to outpace dish and cable

I agree... They are by far the best provider out there in regards to reliability and customer service. I don't know why they would want to be tied to a shitty company, aside from big $$$ being thrown at the heads

They have been tied together for years with AT&T offering Internet and DirecTV bundles.

For the record I work in the business and rumor Is dish network is the likely suitor for Att

There CEO Charlie Ergan is looking to sell and AT&T has been rumored to be buying them for years.

I don't see directv partnering.

A partnership to offer something that the other doesn't provide in order to increase revenues is a different story that being owned and operated by one entity.

I thought there were rumblings about Dish approaching Direct and asking to be bought out

This was months ago, if not mid last year.

Provider, yes.

Service, absolutely no way.

This coming from a 17 year subscriber that just recently cancelled, due to my customer service experience on multiple occasions.

There is no accountability and no resolution to completion. It's just one big maze, i.e. call center where you are transferred and transferred and transferred.

In 12 yrs I have never had a single issue... Ever

The only time I have been unhappy with them is last week when I called about renewing and they said they couldn't offer me anything to stay. I went ahead and set up a disconnect and the guy said to call back the day before that and see if they could offer something then.

And in this space, they absolutely are... I have had Comcast/ATT/Cox at some point and none of them come anywhere close to Direct.

When has "need" ever been the driving factor for selling out?

Just the rumor of AT&T being interested has DTV's stock up this morning 5%.

How is DirectTV's internet service? Is it fast enough to play online games with?

They don't have internet service, at least that I know of.. They were paired up with Hughesnet back in the day, but I don't know if they still are. They have a partnership with AT&T and bundle pricing for Directv Video/AT&T internet.

I have Direct and then comcast for internet.

Directv is bundled with AT&T and Verizon in areas and for rural it's Hughes and exede

Yes the dish/directv rumor is always there. Ergan is in his 60s now and wants to get into wireless and is looking to sell the dish side of the business.

All depends on time warner Comcast deal. If that goes through quickly then all bets are off. Democratic office usually is against mergers

Not to be an arse, but what other reason is there? Making sure their customers get good customer service after they cash out is a very low priority.

I'm talking about short term vs long term... Take a huge buyout of X dollars when over 10yrs they would earn XX dollars.

No, satellite internet can never be good enough for games (at least not multiplayer ones). The speed of light means that the ping times via geosynchronous satellite is about 500 milliseconds. Most gaming requires pings under 100ms.

Unless DTV has a DSL partner in your area.

I always see complaints about directv's customer service

I've been with them for near 2 years and I don't have one bad thing to say

I've called them several times and been pleased with results

I agree, like I said in all of the years I have had them, I have not had a single issue.

My only issue is they won't pony up the offers to stay with them right now.

I've had comcast for internet for the past 4yrs and have had multiple issues with them. I had AT&T for a short period and had multiple issues, so I cancelled.
