Way cheaper than buying life insurance as potential burial insurance: anatomical donation. Donate your body to science, avoid ridiculous funeral costs. The bureau of anatomical services will even transport your body for free if you expire within 200 miles of NOLA. Find out more here: LINK
Your body helps train future doctors, and you don't spend stupid amounts of money subsidizing the death industry. Your cremains are returned to your family once they're finished with you, if you so desire.

I have a 20 yr term based on the fact that both my kids will be over 20 when the policy ends. Really, that's my main concern is being able to help my wife take care of the kids if I pass. If I didn't have kids, I would probably stick to the basic 2x salary coverage my work gives me.

I say build your wealth otherwise, and if you happen to get married and conceive a child, look into a 20 year term at that point at 10x your salary. Term coverage is pretty cheap.

Stay away from whole life.
