The Dao has already raised over $40 million in funds, making it the second largest crowd funded project ever:

I have dropped about a hundred dollars on it myself, I will probably drop a few more before the price change hits. I am not positive it will succeed personally but I think it's worth a speculative investment.

For those that don't know this is the first of a completely new type of organization for business - a decentralized autonomous organization (Dao). Here is a great article to learn more:

Sounds sketchy, I'd be surprised if the SEC wasn't already looking into possible securities laws violations related to this.

I don't think there is any attempt to subvert the law, but there is a concern that without a formal company it would be a general partnership. Here is a lawyers perspective on it:

Who knows, it's kinda a new thing in reality. Before now it was just a theory of a new organization:

quote:

For social scientists like us, The DAO is perhaps one of the purest experiments in microeconomic theory, particularly of contracts, digital organisations and mechanism design. And it is likely to produce significant insights into how innovation occurs.

I am trying to protect myself for sure just in case.

There will be later DAOs that will focus on illegal activities, I will avoid those. This one is more like a venture capital firm for the Internet of Things market.

Not really, no direct payouts to investors.

It's more like a revamped Kickstarter.
