Anybody ever get a phone call from someone selling oil wells?

I used to get a fairly regular phone call from some guy who wanted to sell me a piece of an oil well. He said he would send me geological research papers that showed and guaranteed there was oil where they were going to drill.
Considering the price of oil, I'm glad I never fell for this scam.
Finally, I asked him what the minimum investment was. He said, $50,000. I lied and told him I didn't have that much money to invest. He knew my name and I'm not comfortable with strangers knowing how much money I have.
Anybody ever heard of this kind of thing?

I have never heard of this type of cold calling, especially at that buy-in price.
He had to have gotten some "qualifying" info from someone. Maybe he had another investor/victim who knew you who gave him your info.

The "Champions Group" called me. I told him I wasn't interested. He still sent me their brochure, but I just threw it in the trash and screened his calls.

Google gulf coast western and tell me if they are the same company who called you. I have an acquaintance who runs one of their sales/call rooms and it's the biggest scam I've heard of. When you google them, also Google gulf coast western scam and see how many domains they have purchased to keep from getting blasted with this. They still sell millions in fraudulent oil well investments.
My acquaintance is also their perfect employee--spends every dime he makes!

It didn't occur to me that $50,000 was bragging.
Jeez, $50,000 is nothing.

He never identified what company he was working for.
