We literally took the igloo's sloppy seconds, they were ready to run him out of town. Should've gotten Tressel instead if we wanted to raid that former FCS blue blood

Not that I’m defending his defense, but those criticisms seem to be about him as a head coach

You don't think players react to his attitude the same way regardless? Ask Nebraska fans, lack of effort, constantly blowing assignments, etc. it's all familiar to them

Everyone knew it was a bad hire.

Woody needs to force Os hand and make sure hire a competent DC.

Incredible investigation detective. You found two criticisms of him on a message board from two years ago!

you can find lots of fans saying every coach sucks, most of whom are very much unqualified to give a respected opinion.

Bo was recommended to O by carroll, moffit, Marucci, and a host of former players, etc etc. those are the same kinda guys O talks to before he makes any hires. he goes to guys he trusts. Unfortunately they may have all been wrong this time. It is probably too soon to tell when you look at personnel.

Oh sod off, you can ask any Neb or YSU fans about him. Same shite that's happening here. After Melvin Gordon set the FBS record for rushing yards in a game against Pelini's Huskers here's what he said
quote:

“Obviously disappointed and we’ve got two games left,” Pelini said. “We started off well and were doing a lot of good things in all three phases of the game. Then it flipped – somewhere along the way and our guys lost their confidence."

Pelini couldn't pinpoint any one thing that went wrong but said it was a myriad of failures on the Huskers' part across all levels.

“Our tackling was atrocious, we had some missed assignments and obviously we got beat.”
Missing assignments was an understatement as Gordon had plenty of room to bounce to the outside and he routinely shaked any would be tacklers.

“The thing that was very disappointing was when they got to the second level, plays that should’ve been, in my opinion, an 8-yard or 10-yard gain ended up being 40 or 50 (yards),” he said. “That shouldn’t happen. You’ve got to give a lot of credit and Melvin Gordon is a helluva back but we played a big part in that too.”

Nebraska fans are the ones we need to ask? What in hell have they done since Osborne retired.
Pelini had more success at Nebraska than others lately.
According to Hester, players like the guy.

He went 9-4 every year by beating up on scrubs. The same lack of effort and mistakes by players on defense bc his style didn't resonate with them. Scott Frost has them in the top 20 in recruiting the last couple of years (unlike Pelini) and they'll be competitive soon, already played OSU very well until refs stepped in at the end of the 1st half

Woody and Pelini are old pals. Woody should have had the book on Pelini.

My biggest concern about Pelini before the season is that he likes to yell and scream and berate the players, but from all accounts, our players seemed to like him. You can't treat players today like you used to 20 years ago. Maybe he is too old school on all fronts.

I mean if it didn't work much with 2 and 3 stars at Nebraska or even FCS players at YSU; it sure af won't work with 4-5 stars from the safe space generation

After reading some information on Pelini at Nebraska, I found the following:

“Pelini improved to 67-27 as Nebraska's coach on Friday with a 37-34 overtime win at Iowa. The victory pushed Pelini's win total past Tom Osborne for the most ever at the school in a coach's first seven years.”

“In fact, no coach in the history of a Power 5 program had been fired for on-field performance after winning as many games in his first seven years.”

“Nebraska’s record since firing Bo Pelini: 28-36.”

define "everyone". there were a good number of people on this board that were excited about returning to an "aggressive" style of defense under Bo.

Bc he was beating up on garbage teams, being an a-hole and recruiting poorly. Look at who Nebraska beat that year vs losing to the three best teams they played, including 59-24 to Wisconsin in which Melving Gordon set the NCAA record for most rushing yards in a single game. Pelini's defense has set multiple records in just his short time here as well. Sound familiar?
quote:

Nebraska traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in a key Big Ten West Division game on Saturday. Melvin Gordon ran for a new FBS single-game rushing record 408 yards. The Badgers scored 56 unanswered points after the Huskers started the game with a 17–3 lead to win the contest and the inaugural Freedom Trophy by a 59–24 score.

After that Wisconsin loss...

“Nebraska rebounded by winning three games in a row, including a 21-point second half comeback – the largest in school history – against Ohio State and a 24–3 win versus #9 Michigan State.”

My mistake. The Wisconsin loss I cited was 2011. Nevertheless, Pelini had success at Nebraska. You may be correct that he is and has always been a terrible coach; however, he inherited a 5-7 team at Nebraska and had an overall record of 67-27. Since his firing, Nebraska is 28-36. Why are they not still having 9-4 seasons, if those positive results were simply due to “beating scrubs” and “garbage teams”?
