I am not sure how the university's part to reach out to victims is suddenly classified as a 'classy' move by so many people. It is the least the university could do. I am willing to bet if this happened in any other school in the country, the school would have reacted in the same way. What WVU has done until this point is nothing special or out of the ordinary. This is just PR management 101.
What the university did is a 'nice' gesture at best. It would become classy if they went out of their way to help the victims in terms of their medical expenses, refund their tickets, reiumburse their entire trip etc. Some of you guys need to raise your bars for your definition of a 'classy' move.

I agree with you both 100% and I have stated already that I hope the university does just this. They should also have a fund raiser also for the family to raise awareness about these type of incidents. It would be good for all parties involved to do something like this.

I've kept my mouth shut on this till now, but I lost my Aunt to boys hurling concrete through her car while going on a joy ride. I've got strong feelings about this. At the same time that incident years ago taught me forgiveness.
Last name starts with U? I knew your grandpa. Sorry for your loss. Horrible senseless tragedy.
