Would we be better off if we won a super regional on the road?

Maybe we'd be sharper with a little adversity before the CWS. At least under CPM.

LSU did have adversity having to come back to beat MSU in the first game in the supers. The team is just playing terrible baseball in Omaha right now. Even their win against FSU wasn't pretty and had to get a lot of lucky breaks to get out of that game. The bats need to wake up very fast.

True, but MSU in no way is as good as any of the CWS teams.

No

We have too much respect as a program, we're very rarely not going to be a national seed.

For us not to be, we'd likely have to have a pretty blah season, which would mean things aren't clicking at all, and we lose in the regional or super regional round.

Problem was that this team peaked at the SEC tourney, and has been fading since. Bats carried us through the regional, but our pitchers struggled. Super regional we lucked into a good matchup, a team we'd already swept on the road, who could only scrape up one solid pitcher. He pushed us, but when we beat him it was over.

No. Let me help you out here. We would have been better off if:

1) Kramer makes a routine play at short.

2) Watson would have hit a cutoff man instead of blindly lobbing one into the infield.

3) Any reliever after Gilbert would have thrown strikes.

4) Oregon State's entire team had shown up infected with the e coli bacteria.

And even with all of that, it probably still wouldn't have mattered. Oregon State took us behind the woodshed and went full "Deliverance, squeal like a pig" on us, sans lube.

If this play happened Gilbert stays in the game and the inning is over. Plus the game is still 1-0. The game would have changed dramatically. I'm not saying we would have won but I don't think it would have turned into a massacre.

I hear you. I'm just fishing for an answer to how a team can go from the top to a lifeless, spiritless performance. The team just gave up.

Well at least they got a Big Ole Can of Adversity tonight. Let's see what they are made of Wednesday.

Right. Unfortunately this one play put the wheels in motion for the collapse to happen. You just can't give those guys 4 outs in an inning and you can't give them free bases.

Compare their top 4 hitters to ours tonight. That's the story of their 13 and our 1.
