At least Wade knows the difference between a gym and an arena unlike that mongoloid that coaches ULL.

I thought at one point, teams went to the larger arena. Is that still the case?

Hmm, this might not be good for the McNeese hosting plans
quote:

On October 27, 2023, the NCAA announced that conference regular season champions that do not win their conference tournaments or otherwise not selected for the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, will no longer receive an automatic bid. The NIT will now guarantee two teams, based on the NET Rankings from each of six major conferences: ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC. The top two teams in the NET Rankings that do not qualify for the NCAA tournament from each conference, regardless of their record, will be selected for the NIT Tournament, and guaranteed the ability to host a game for the first round. After the twelve teams have been selected, the NIT selection committee will select the twenty best teams that are available to participate in the NIT tournament, regardless of conference. Based on the selection committee's rankings, four of the twenty teams will be selected as one of the sixteen first round hosts.

So, for reference, the current SEC rankings by NET (in order, not with NET number)
1) Alabama
2) Tennessee
3) Auburn
4) Kentucky
5) Florida
6) Miss State
7) Texas A&M
8) South Carolina
9) Ole Miss
10) LSU
11) Georgia

... the rest don't matter.
Of the teams ahead of LSU, it looks like 8 will make the NCAA, which would mean LSU is a lock to host the NIT.

McNeese must win their conference tournament to make the NCAA Ty. I hope they do.

LSU MBB needs to win Sat and Tuesday for me to start to think they MIGHT have a shot at the NIT.

Won't happen, but I'd pay $$ to see McNeese play our Tigers at ULL in an NIT game.

McNeese will probably be in the tournament although you never know with those low major tournaments.

If they’re in the NIT they’d have to be a 4 seed or higher to host unless the higher seeded teams gym is in use or something.

I agree, they start off in the semi finals and play two home games. If they win those then they don’t deserve it.

The NCAA would gleefully and joyfully pair LSU against McNeese if they get the opportunity.

A&M and Ole Miss are just barely on the bubble, at this point in time. LSU can jump into the fray if they win out and one or both of the aforementioned teams slides out of consideration.

Did you not read my post?

The NIT takes the top 2 SEC teams not in the NCAA (by NET rankings), and they host. No ifs ands or buts.

Right now, LSU is 10th in the SEC in NET, at 84.
UGA is next at 95.

Of the 9 teams ahead of LSU, 8 are currently projected in, with A&M as Last 4 in, and the 9th is Ole Miss at First 4 out. I think the SEC gets 8, with it being either Ole Miss/A&M as the last SEC team in. That leaves the other as the 1st NIT host, ... and LSU as the 2nd.

I think it’s pretty unlikely that mcneese doesn’t go to the ncaa tournament. But if they don’t, I’m not sure the NIT committee cares about grudges when seeding.

There are so many variables before its sorted out such as the number of upsets in various conference tournaments, extended winning or losing streaks and just the eye test . The SEC teams ranked 6 t0 11 in NET rankings will start knocking each other off. If any of the lower end teams like LSU, Ole Miss or Georgia win 4 of five and a couple of tourney games they could vault past several teams. Hopefully the Tigers have gained the confidence they can compete with anyone and if they can survive two rounds of the tournament any thing might happen as other teams eliminate each other. Lets beat State tomorrow nigh to continue a strong finish.

No. But the often care about proximity in first round games for ease of travel purposes. It’s why LSU and ULL were matched up in 2018. And Washington St/Eastern Washington, Florida/UCF, Rutgers/Hofstra were matchups last year. While not a certainty, a LSU v McNeese matchup would definitely be on the table.

At the end of the day the NIT is the Not Important Tournament. So it wants to create interest. Wade returning to LSU would be a way to do so.

You are on target. I bet the NIT has LSU/McNeese penciled into a bracket as we speak.

They'll do anything to spur interest, and as alt said, geography is a major factor in forming the bracket.

The NCAA doesn't make the NIT decisions, that is independent.

If LSU and McNeese both end up in the NIT, they will almost certainly play each other but it will be at LSU due to the NIT's latest rules regarding first-round home games.

But the odds are that Wade will finally win a tournament conference this year and get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
