Obviously not this year with a powerful stable of backs and two young not-so-mobile QBs. But what about when JJ gets some experience? God knows when Shep gets here, if he has a big enough arm he'd be ideal to run the spread. LSU's WRs are typically strong to quite strong with plenty of speed so it makes sense to consider it right? We know Crowton's not scared of the spread, but has he ever said anything about running it at LSU?

I'm pretty sure it's his intention... especially considering we ran quite a bit of zone read last year.

I'm assuming you mean the Spread-Option.

Everyone keeps saying that JJ is running well. That being said, I don't think he is a spread option QB. I could see Shep running the spread option, but I would think that Crowton would run a modified offense out of the pistol or something.

With the right QB I could see us running an offense like Ga Tech when Fridgen was there. One play would be out of the shot gun with five wide, the next was a wing-T and the next was a goalline formation.

Crowton's plans for the spread are at Jacksonville State right now. Expect to see it in packages if JJ steps up to the plate. Definitely when Shepard hits campus.

Part of the time we run the spread. Sometimes we use a power run formation. ...Whichever the defense isn't ready for. All hail Crowton!!!

In what way, and by whose definition can Andrew Hatch be considered "not-so-mobile"?

oh god, i would hate that. I like the fact we can run the spread but we still can line up and play power football, and not that cute, gimmicky stuff they play at florida.

I'm not suggesting he can't move at all. But if he is mobile, its an attribute not often discussed. I haven't seen him in action though. You tell me - is he a run threat?

I'm confused....Is this the first time some of you have watched football?

LSU does use the spread as well as many other sets.

I'll let you make up your own mind on that...

I see you've finally learned that there's a difference between the two.

Spread = style of formation
Spread option = running a qb option from the spread formation.

To the original poster, we will run a lot of spread formations this year. Very little spread option will be run from these formations.

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to the spread. The spread is not an offense it is an offensive lineman formation. The offensive lineman or spread out usually in 2 foot gaps or more as opposed to being bunched together.

It calls for lineman with mobility moreso than drive blockers. WVU ran the spread option, Texas Tech ran a passing offense from a spread formation. UF actually runs a single wing formation with the lineman spread out.

This year you see Jimbo Fisher run the pistol spread at FSU. The lineman were more packed last year because Trickett did not have any mobile lineman but will start sophomores and freshman this year using the scheme.

Fisher can also run pro-set offenses still using the spread it is all a matter of lineman spacing.
