Here's my "memorable" but wish I could forget (selective Alzheimer's) top 5 LSU losses of all-time: The Thrill of hopeful/pending Victoy w Defeat

1. Number 1 all-time has to the Vandy loss (at Vandy) when Kinchen caught the winning TD and then ruled illegal push-off. Not even the TENN loss (then victory) could top this emotional roller-coaster IMO.

2. 40-3 blowout loss to the "U" (Miami Hurricanes). The "U" was a top college powerhouse at the time and LSU was beginning to get back to greatness with Mike Archer running the program. Saddest of all (as I recall) it was a HOME game! After the hard-fought but one-sided contest LSU players were quoted as saying "We played great" or something to that effect. This IMO set the program back a few years - including merry go around w coaches. Archer's fate was sealed that day. He had Fla. ties and lost respect from the LSU faithful and the admin.

3. LSU vs AU loss at Auburn b/c of penalty on extra point! LSU was poised (as they are now) for greatness and domination in college football. Saban was running a tight ship and Jarmcuss Russell was coming into his own as a potential ALL-AMERICAN QB. Great game but it was tough to accept as a Tiger fan.

4. LSU loss w Josh Booty at QB against Troy State (I think) - at home again! What a terrible game by our starting all-conference to-be QB. Saban never did pull him and Davey was waiting in the wings. WTF? Sound familiar? Good news on this one is I think we ended up in Georgia Dome for bowl game against Ga. Tech. Davey got his chance in 2nd half and was brilliant!

5. Our last "home" game loss in BCS Title Game! Yes, it will ALWAYS be in my top 5. The loss may have been quickly erased from memory had we given it the "old college try" w Lee AND then become ARGUABLY the BEST college football team of ALL-TIME! Enough already. I'm ready for 2012 season. Geaux Tigers and God Bless All Tiger Fans! It's been a tough Q1.

My worst 5 on memory:

1. 1/9/12

2. Jamie Howard Interception game vs AU

3. Auburn refgate on the plains

4. Ark 3OT loss

5. Miracle on Markham

I'm probably leaving off a few. But those sting the most imo.

I would say the 07 OT loss to Arkansas but because we went to the national championship all is forgiven haha

I would have to add though the loss to Iowa in 04 capital one bowl with the hail mary pass.

Oh actually the 2010 Capital one bowl vs Penn St. was the worst loss for me. It was my birthday present to go see the game in Orlando my senior year of high school and I have never seen a field so depleted. They just redid the field after miami played on it vs Wisconsin and the turf was rollin up like a rug. It was cold and raining and I remember Trindon Holiday had a possible punt return for a TD but when he cut he almost slipped beneath the turf it was so bad. Not only that but there were a shite ton of dropped passes

Your choices were terrible fwiw. You have to include the significance of the game in your choices.

In no order:

Auburn 06
1/9/12
Arkansas 02
Auburn 04
Arkansas 07 (even though everything worked out)

Honorable mention: Ole Miss 97

LSU played ALOT of bad games and bad losses in the last 20 years! 90's weren't too kind to LSU football...so I'll stick with the 2000's

Home loss to UAB
Monday night loss to Tenn
at Auburn 2004
at Auburn 2006
at Arky (lost on hail mary to keep us out of SEC CG) forget the year

The OP must betting old, as am I. The first two on his list, both of which continue to haunt my sad little life, occurred more than 20 years.

One of the toughest losses for me to swallow was in 1998 vs UGA. LSU was ranked #8 at the time and was 3-0, or 2-0, to start the year. This was year one of Lou Tepper, and Quincy Carter as a freshman just carved up LSU and our drop linebacker. Even still, LSU had a chance to take the lead late in the 4th quarter, but a false start helped to stop a drive in the redzone and LSU had to settle for a field goal instead of the go ahead touchdown. With less than 3 minutes left, LSU had UGA facing a 3rd and long backed up near the North Endzone. I will never forget how fast Booger McFarland blew through the UGA line for what looked like a certain sack. However, Carter let go of the ball at the last possible moment, and completed a first down to Champ Bailey. UGA eventually ran out the clock and LSU never got the ball back.

I left that game as dejected as any LSU game ever, until Arkansas 2007.
