The Associated Press just sent this story down about upcoming restrictions. While I understand their hopes to protect their product, I think it is overstepping their bounds and harming the public good. These are after all public Universities, if you are going to allow camera's in there, then why restrict the free publicity they provide.

It would certainly change the way my job is conducted. It basically ends the practice of revisiting old games and looking at old highlites.

Here's the article,

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Southeastern Conference is expected to impose rules that prohibit the news media from posting video from games, practices and news conference.

Seems like some bullshite to me. I know we all get off on how powerful the SEC is, but this seems to be a ridiculous policy.

The Southeastern Conference is expected to release new rules next week that ban news media from posting video from games, practices and press conferences on Web sites and limit televised highlights from games.

The policy, distributed to member schools Thursday and obtained by The Tuscaloosa News today, also places restrictions on TV broadcasts, limiting news stations to clips of no longer than three minutes and allowing highlights for only 72 hours after the conclusion of a game.

Lemme guess - XOS Technologies will offer up everything that the local media can't provide on a website for a nominal fee?

Well, that sucks.

Pretty sure it's free, but other than that, yeah.

Any chance this has something to do with the ESPN/CBS contract? They could have exclusive rights to the video's and therefore set up their own "SEC Football" website to direct users to their pages. (Their advertisments, more money...) Dunno, just a thought.
