Will other teams now adopt Miss St's strategy to walk Deichmann consistently?

Miss State walked Deichmann TEN times in the 3 games this weekend including all 4 times he came to bat Thursday night.

Deichmann scored 2 runs for the series and went 2 for 5 when Miss St was forced to pitch to him.

Either we've got to get someone hitting behind him that makes other teams wary of putting him on base every time or we might just see the bat taken out of his hands from now on except when the bases are loaded, etc.

ETA: Coomes, batting behind Deichmann all 3 games, went 3 for 14, .214, for the weekend with 4 RBIs.

I'd be OK with that, especially with how the bottom of the order has been hitting lately

Switch him and Antoine? I'm not sure anyone else really could be trusted to protect him and produce in the 4 hole

How did that work out for them?

I'll take the OBP of 0.800 every weekend. This is a team sport and Deichmann didn't get us here by himself.

I like what he does for Duplantis and the bottom of the order is clicking as is. No reason to change it.

Hit Freeman 4th so he can protect Deichmann. We also can stop bunting one of our best hitters all the time. Kill two birds with one stone.

Robertson
Duplantis
Deichmann
Freeman

Or if you want to drop Duplantis lower in the lineup, hit Watson 2nd or something.

That strategy didn't work out well for them. Our offense still put up big numbers

But if they had pitched to Deichmann, would we have put up bigger numbers?

He didn't have an extra base hit all weekend.

It's not like he scored 6 or 7 runs after being given 10 free passes.

Let's not forget Coomes got robbed twice including one on a diving play by the right fielder that would have scored two.

Just because he only scored two runs this weekend in 3 games doesn't mean that putting him on 10 times will continue to be a sustainable model. That will come back to haunt teams.

That's why I asked the question in the thread title.

It doesn't matter who you bat behind Deichmann. He is LSU's only true power threat. They are going to pitch around him when they can. This team has to protect Deichmann by getting guys on base ahead of him. That's the only way they pitch to him.

And that's why I answered that I'm A-OK with teams continuing to do that.

Coomes has been swinging the bat well. A lot of hard luck outs. If you keep putting the fat part of the bat on the middle of the ball they will start falling.

The lineup as a whole is swinging the bat better. Keep everything the way it currently is IMO.

I was thinking the same thing during yesterday's game. I think teams will continue to walk Deichmann intentionally when they aren't forced to pitch to him. I think Duplantis or Freeman would protect him better than Coomes. I think we should steal State's strategy they use with Rooker. Put him in the 2 hole. Just my opinion.

1. Robertson
2. Deichmann
3. Freeman or Duplantis
4. Duplantis or Freeman

9. Watson (leave him here putting 2 guys with high OBP in front of Deichmann)

Deichmann will not be protected by the next hitter regardless of who CPM inserts in that position. There is simply no one on the roster that makes pitching to Deichmann a better option.

Deichmann's opportunity to see pitches will depend on what those in front of him do.

They could move him to the 2 hole like Rooker...maybe get an extra at bat out of him also late in the game

Why do people think it didn't work? How many times did they put him on and coomes come up behind him and blow it? They lost because the rest of our lineup hit (or walked) not because they gave deichman free passes. You let him swing the bat and we score atleast 2-3 more runs that series
