If it happened, would this be the first in NCAA history for this to occur with any 'lesser tier' sport to outdo basketball? I cannot think of any school to do that...

Ah...really didn't know that was common. Is this total attendance, average attendance or both?

It's not common but back when Yoculan and Patterson were at UGA and Bama it happened. I doubt either of them still draws like that. Of course the common denominator is none of the schools have great basketball programs.

People pay their hard working money to see talent. Gymnastics has way more talent than basketball

It looks like they already are. They pack the PMAC for every home meet.

Over 11k tonight. Might take the men a couple of games to equal that total.

Reminds me of Basketball in 79, 80 and 81!

Damn shame what Alleva has created. Every LSU Alum/Fan should be and demand a return to excellence in the Basketball programS..............

I'm betting the gymnastics team could beat the men's basketball team at basketball. So, I'm sure they will.

The evolution of roundball at any level has become unwatchable IMO. One player shooting 3 pointers or dunking the ball. That is all it is and those girls are much more exciting to watch than seeing roundball.

Thought the same thing last night when I was at the meet. I was a small kid during that era, and it was a fun ride. It also reminded me of the Shaq days when I was in college.

It was fun to see the PMAC nearly full last night and with a crowd that enjoyed itself.

On a per event basis....definitely. Total not even close, due to number of events

Yes! My dad and had season tickets and that was a magical time. There was so much energy and emotion in the building and it was loud as hell, every game. Truly, that stretch was one of the best memories of LSU sports for me.

I went last night and was struck by a couple things. First, obviously the packed house was pretty impressive. Like others said, reminded me of days gone by in hoops. That wasn't all, though. The crowd was actually, wait for it......having fun. The gymnastics program has made it enjoyable to go to the meets while the Basketball program has managed to drain the fun out of games. The other thing that I definitely noticed is that there is much more thought and resources out into the overall fan experience. From the intros to giveaways to, well, pretty much everything, it is obvious that thought went into making the whole experience a fun one. When you look at the men's basketball games, it is quite pitiful how little is done to make the experience fun.

Didn't LSU compete against Western Texas last night in gymnastics? Drew almost 12k. This is flat our incredible.

Does it cost to attend a meet? I'd like to bring my daughter.

GA tickets (all they have at this point I believe) are $5 each. I did see something where there is a voucher online somewhere sponsored by the advocate. You print it out and it gets you free tickets to one if the meets. I don't remember which one. Take her. You will both have fun.
