I have seen many posters say we need a pro style QB for this offense but Etling has shown dual threat ability. Looked like he has good speed and athleticism. It was reported that he ran a 4.6 40ty time which is dual threat type speed. Plus he ran for a TD against JSU again displaying great dual threat abililty. Will this cause him a problem in being able to execute LSU style offense?

Yes. He's too athletic. Make him stop.

Running isn't a problem, and it's something that would have saved Harris on quite a few occasions as opposed to waiting for a route to open up or trying to force the ball.

If Etling can do it when it's needed or necessary, it's only going to help.

This is getting too complicated for me. Let me get this straight. Quarterbacks sometimes throw the ball, sometimes hand it off to someone else, and now they are running with the ball also? We do have some of the smartest fans. I would never have put all this together. Yes, this will probably be a big problem for the offense.

I'm getting pretty sick of the term 'dual threat'.

I don't want dual threats. They confuse Les too much

My problem is, we recruit "dual threat" but we dont use them properly and therefore they are no threat. Coaching plays the one to blame in this situation.

I would not call Etlings ability to scramble a true "dual threat." Or maybe, I dont believe we should use his speed in a dual threat capacity. If he sees a chance to score, take it, but maybe dont design run plays for him. We have four workhorses chomping at the bit to take carries.

I don't remember Etling running any called runs except the Run/Pass option on the TD. He is a pro style guy. He did not run the read option to my memory and on another note we only ran the toss dive twice I think... Maybe we have worn those pages of the playbook out.

As long as we don't revert back to our dual-threat-QB section of the playbook, we should be ok.

Yeah, they are more 1-and-a-half threat anyway. Taking away their ability to run destroys what makes them any good to begin with.

Les says he loves what dual threats brings to the table then refuses to use said ability. But etling actually using his ability and running instead of taking a sack or chunking it away could be nothing but a positive I would think

he doesn't hesitate. may not be as athletic as harris, but harris rarely was decisive in his running (scrambling at least)

I don't think we run DE a whole lot, but he can be an effective runner

I wish Harris would've run more.

He had so many opportunities to tuck and run for positive gain instead of forcing bad passes.

Also, when a QB shows he is willing to do that, it keeps the secondary and linebackers on their toes.

Harris was apparently fast, but we might never actually find out because he never fricking ran effectively on broken plays.

ETA:

Non-QB run designed plays are where I like the QB to run. Everyone could see our read option coming a mile away. Harris never sat in the pocket, scanned the field for passes, then saw a gap in the field and took off running.

Etling did that a few times very effectively. Even Jamarcus did that.

I hate it to be true. Honestly I will be shocked if our offense doesn't look like it has before last games 2nd qtr. Neutered offense unimaginative runs with almost no passing except 30+ yard bombs low competitions. I just don't see dink and dunk being allowed

You're an idiot.

Pocket passer that can run is a god send. Stop trying to find problems where they don't exist.
