Furniss had a .371 batting average in his four years at LSU, and set SEC career records for hits (352), doubles (87), home runs (80), runs batted in (309), and total bases (689).

And he got to use a fungo bat.

The CWS winner and MLB shouldn't have a thing to do with whether or not he is the "GOAT". Winning the CWS is much more difficult than it was 20 years ago. THe addition of Super regionals compounds the difficulty.

He doesn’t strike out anymore than Furniss did.

Not to take anything away from Walker or Furniss both are great players, but the baseball bats of today are way less juiced then they were in the past. If Crews can have success in Omaha 3 will never be worn again.

That title belongs to Eddie Furniss my friend. Google that one.

I think Berry is better now…Crews is phenomenal, don’t get me wrong but Berry is better at the plate, at least pre-fractured finger anyways.

Most exciting player to watch since Alex Bregman in my opinion. Still has another year too.

Berry is better at the plate but just slightly. Crews is significantly better at every other aspect of the game. I'd take Crews over Berry any day.

If Bregman is in the conversation, then Crews absolutely is in the conversation. Crews isn't on Walker/Furniss level and I doubt he reaches that level. Who knows though, with one more year he may give it a run.

Edit: Just for fun looked up some stats to see if my opinion of this was backed any.

Bregman LSU career (3 seasons)
.337 AVG
21 HR
148 RBI
66 SB
87BB to 68K
.923 OPS

Crews LSU career (1.75 seasons)
.356 AVG
34 HR
94 RBI
15 SB
66BB to 87K
1.119 OPS

Didn't realize Bregman BB to K ratio. Knew it was good but didn't realize it was that good until looking up the stats.

Crews has the tools, but the fact that he is an outfielder, to me, will make it hard for him

If you watched sundays game you’d realize how important great outfielders are.

Infielders save hits. Outfielders save runs.

Todd Walker
Warren Morris
Alex Bregman
Ben McDonald
D J Lemehieu
Aaron Hill
Aaron Nola
Mike Fontenot
Lyle Mouton
Russ Springer

and plenty of others were Big Time players at LSU. If Crews is just mentioned along with these guys he is special.

Crews should absolutely be mentioned with those guys by the time his career is done.

Even if he did, the level of pitching in today's game compared to Furniss' era is night and day.

MLB success doesn’t really matter but when you are talking about GOAT at a place like LSU at minimum you need to do something memorable in Omaha or to get to Omaha like what Nola did against Oklahoma in the supers.

It’s a tiebreaker when you are comparing the best of the best.

He's very talented, but to put the label as GOAT on one particular baseball player of his caliber then you can argue hundreds of others that came through the LSU program could also be the GOAT.

As a position player, I would put him about even with Bregman at this stage. He would have to hit even better to pass up Walker and Furniss. However, like Bregman, he is excellent defensively, where Walker and Furniss were not.

It's hard to really gauge the 4 of them, because they play different positions, just glad they are all Tigers and great players. On another note, while in Houston for the Shiners classic, I met a pitcher on another team that had been on Team USA with Crews. He told me he was a great guy and team mate, where many guy on the team were arrogant.

Bregman was the most unlucky LSU hitter I’ve ever seen. So many squared up ball hits right at defenders.

He's definitely the best position player post-Bertman. It's hard to compare him vs. those 90's guys. Furniss compiled such ridiculous career stats and lead us to 2 national titles. Walker right there with him. Crews may very well be the most talented if you put them all on the same team but he's probably gotta win the Golden Spikes and the national title to be the GOAT of LSU baseball.
