To hopefully convince the NCAA not to take more than that.

Because they know if they it'll be worse from the NCAA if they don't self impose anything

I wonder what the max would've been. Did woodward do the bidding? if so the max was probably 6

It’s a smart move. Self impose schollies when you have a ton of spots to fill and many schollies to give out

I don't agree with this

When schools say frick off, admit nothing, and fight like hell, they usually get off no matter how obvious it is they did something. See North Carolinas egregious academic scandal

When schools self impose, admit fault, the NCAA fricking hammers them worse. See Mizzou and Ole miss

The NCAA cant find shite on their own

LSU is also 10 scholarships under the limit, and thats after giving three to walkons this summer.

The 8 scholarships over two years will not terribly hurt us.

Remember, the 25 limit is tougher for us than the 85. The attrition will always be there.

From Dellenger SI Article

quote:

• The father of former offensive lineman Vadal Alexander received $180,000 in stolen money from LSU booster John Paul Funes, who admitted in 2019 that he embezzled more than half a million dollars from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. The money was payment from 2012 to 2017 for what the NCAA characterized as a “no-show job.”

Probably got off easier by self-reporting, that other $320,000 probably went to players/families as well.. they just couldn’t prove it.

If this is the extent of punishment, so be it.

Also from SI article

quote:

In its favor, LSU no longer employs two high-ranking athletic department members, athletic director Joe Alleva and football coach Les Miles, who were in their positions during the booster payments. The booster payments were the most serious of a three-pronged investigation into the program that began in late 2018.

Having new leadership being proactive and transparent has most likely helped our case

So has this been accepted by the NCAA or are they gonna be crawling around our asses for another couple years to hit us with more sanctions?

It is always... always.... lesser penalties if you:
A) self-report
B) self-penalize with the report.

Now we skipped step A here. So were a little hard on ourselves (in LSU's view based on what the NCAA has penalized for same infractions in the past in general).

In all fairness, it was hard to self-report the OBJ stuff. It happened on camera during a celebration on the sideline. Bahansen did anyway, but I don't think we got the credit for it.

It would take the NCAA 10 years to make a decision...if they make one at all. Don't agree with taking 8 scholarships when the NCAA will screw it up and take none.

While true, they didn’t really have to find anything in their own in this case. The OLOL stuff is a matter of public record at this point.

You're living in a dream world if you think this is going to be just it when the NCAA is done.

I’m thinking the worst would be a bowl ban for a season. And if this year is an indicator, I hope it would happen next season. By the end of this cycle let’s hope we are back in the title hunt
