Why was the BCS system abandoned, just because the field was expanded from 2 to 4?

Computers have no allegiance. They have no bias. Use the computers and just expand the field.

I know the answer in all honesty, the NCAA didn’t want 2 SEC teams in every year. Which is prolly what would have happened.

USC got left out. Liberals cried like they did after the 2016 election. Difference is, it’s easier to change the CFB selection process than changing the Constitution.

100% not true at all. Computers are only as good as the program they run. Sagarin tried to tell us the PAC 12 was the best conference because they played 9 conference games instead of 8. Computers were biased as well.

I think it was just to have control over picking who gets in the CFP in general. Not specifically to keep two SEC teams from getting in since we’ve already seen that.

Because computers aren’t biased or corrupt

The BCS right now would be:

1. Ohio St
2. LSU
3. Bama
4. Clemson
5. Penn St

Somewhat true. But the way the computers were manipulated to move teams to allow bama in back in 11 was a ploy to destroy the BCS and was the only reason. Wanted to have control and that’s what you got.

Because the Computers would have 2 SEC teams in the top 4 year after year.

This " Committee " is no different than the CBB Tournament Selection Committee with their petty jealousies and biases.

Also of note

The 4 playoff teams have matched the top 4 in the simulated BCS every single season....

Simulated BCS has had the same top 4 as the committee every year so far

Computer algorithms can be adjusted. If you don’t like the formula you can change it.

Not so for humans.

Of course

Doesn’t stop people from ignorantly saying “the BCS should have chosen the 4 teams!!!!”

BCS w/ Top 8 would have been a great playoff system.

I think the BCS formula was abandoned for tv reasons. The BCS could be calculated by anyone with an abacus. With the committee, people actually tune in for the reveal show.

I always love when people say this, it’s like you think some Super AI is the “computers” and not some guy that programs a formula that can 100% be biased

Expanding the field opened the door for a less strict or precise way of picking the teams. But the NCAA and most northern and western schools don/t want the BCS because it does eliminate all bias and nepotism. Remember 2007? After Ohio State beat Michigan people up north were complaining that these were the best 2 teams in the nation and both deserved to be in the NC game, ahead of LSU. They said both teams were better than LSU and would beat LSU. If there had been no BCS LSU would not have been in that NC game. But look at who was the better team. A lot like this year. Ohio state looks good against teams they are more talented than. LSU had tough games against teams these northern people think Ohio State would dominate. Look at the current standings. Penn state at 8-0 ahead of defending NC Clemson 9-0. Doing the math Clemson has a better record. There's always been bias for northern teams by northern media. But there's a reason since the inception of the BCS system only twice has a northern team won the NC.

Everyone hated having computers pick the top two teams when it was in existence.
