I just think the players would benefit playing some tougher games. The CSF series was perfect. It's a shame we came out the next week and played Florida, because our confidence was sky high and our team was playing well. We play FL really tough but got swept, and that pretty much put a dagger in the confidence of the players. Looking back the season pretty much ended with that series last year

I don't know the answer either Lester, but I do agree with you that our season basically ended last year when we couldn't hold the lead Friday in the 9th and then lost 1-0 the next day in the UF series.

I think Mainieri has been shuffling the lineup so much the last couple of years because our talent has been lacking.

There are plenty of northern teams, like ND and Michigan, that come South every to start their seasons.

No reason we can't host those teams and not have a home and home deal.

i just think back to 09 when it took him 20 something games to start playing Mahtook and Nola. And even Leon Landry i think.

those guys were obviously talented, and they werent playing. im not saying he has sat on any talent that good, but it does make you question somewhat if there may be someone there. I just feel like at LSU there shouldnt be that revolving door.

I still think its a crime that last year he didnt put the bat in Ryan Eades or Joe Broussard's hands. 2 very good HS hitters that were touted as pretty good 2 way players. If you are going to have seldom used pitchers on your bench that can hit, why not give them a shot instead of some of the crap that played last year? You never know.

We have both those teams scheduled, and have scheduled northern teams in the past.(mich. st. a few years ago)

Do people realize that you can't just pick whoever you want, and it is guaranteed that they will come play you. Who is to say we haven't tried to get some of these teams, and they did not want to come down here.

Smoke had no trouble getting those teams to come to the box.

he scheduled a lot of Florida & Texas teams. Dabbled in CUSA a lot, who generally has a lot of solid teams.

most of all he got warm weather teams here.

I am wondering what happened to the rice games. Seems like we used to be able to schedule them pretty regularly.

Yea, I understand what you are saying. The Nola to SS Lemahieu to 2B Schimpf to RF was a big part of the strong finish. I think Landry may have started from the get go, but I don't remember. Nola and Mahtook were freshmen though and it is not unusual for coaches to give older guys a chance at first, but I agree with you. Maybe he's changed-some freshmen like Moore are getting PT early this year. Who knows?

Anyway, back to the OP, I don't think tough early OOC competition is that important. Talent, especially on the mound, is most important. I am not saying that I wouldn't prefer some better early games, just saying that it is not necessary. I just don't think it makes that big a difference.

Outside of Long Beach, Southern Miss, and Arizona St. Smoke was not playing a daunting out of conference schedule.

It has also been 5 years since Smoke coached a lot has changed in College Baseball.

PM definitely makes some bad decisions, I don't think that can be questioned.

I agree, we should've definitely scheduled some tougher teams. But get it done in the SEC and we'll be ok.

I'm still worried about hitting and I'll be the first to say...I am not a fan of keeping Javi around this program...seriously. Hitting has steadily declined since he came here.

The only season that jumps out at being particularly weak to me is 09-10

Centenary, William and Mary, Pepperdine (useually decent squad), Brown, and Kansas.

A few close closes from a tough OCS can really come back to bite you in the arse when you play in the SEC. With that said I would love to see LSU play in something like the College Classic in Houston.

Edit: We have played Stetson and UAB since PM has been around.

I would like to see LSU play better teams as well and do a series of home and home with a west coast team. When LSU play Long Beach State several years ago, the LSU fans outnumbered the Long Beach State fans. We also outnumbered the other fanbases at the UCLA regional a couple of years ago. It would be good PR for the university and it is a good chance for high school kids out here to see LSU play. Many of them are interested in attending LSU and we have had quite a number of players from California.

You just like to criticize coaches and players. You don't know shite about LSU baseball and your posts prove it. Why don't you actually attend a game?

It means state your opinion or get off my tail. Why are you even reading my posts if they suck so bad?

I love PM where do you get off saying in critical of him? I don't like Javi Sanchez and I think his out of conf scheduling could use work. That's not really out of line, unless you are just that sensitive.
