Have you seen him play at Vandy this year?

And he sucked.

Why would you want any of those guys to be playing over Jennings? Tell me one thing that they would be capable of doing better. I'll wait.

AJ just needs to trust the receivers more. He's waiting for them to be completely open on routes except for sideline go routes. Throw the ball to where they should be and let them go make a play. If he doesn't begin to do this he won't ever develop the necessary confidence to just release the ball and trust the play calling.

After that shitshow against NMSU, the coaches, and Jennings, only care about 1 thing. Don't turn the ball over. That's why he doesn't make the throw unless he's absolutely sure that it can't be picked.

One thing we can all agree on is that LSU football is known for many things but being QB university is not one of them.

Lets hope that changes with AJ or Harris!

I think thats his point, man. We've gotten medicore play from Jennings and he was the best of that bunch. Why are we so weak at that position?

He's also in his second year. They weren't.

Harris is in his first year.

We were expected to take some time this year developing QBs. It isn't really surprising.

Sometimes I wonder if people even pay attention to what's going on in the game, or if their preconceived perception just becomes reality. LSU essentially has no intermediate passing game. It's all virtually deep balls and short passes outside the hashes. That said, other than his first pass to Neighbors a roll out in the 1st Quarter, Jennings didn't struggle in completing the short passes. After that, he hit Hillard on a bootleg, followed by a rare intermediate crossing route to Drual for a first down. He also later completed multiple short passes to Magee. The only "intermediate" incompletion I recall was the out to Dupree where it hit him in the hands, but the UK player made a nice play to knock it loose.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if LSU actually HAD an intermediate passing game. Or one that featured routes that cross the middle of the field more than 2-3 times a game. It's probably difficult to see on TV, but if you're in the stadium you can see on many of the occasions where Jennings is sacked, the receivers are all covered 25 yards down field outside the hashes. They essentially all run "go" routes over and over again.

I don't think Jennings is the problem as much as LSU's whole risk-averse, simplistic approach to the passing game. If the staff doesn't trust Jennings, then that's fine, put Harris in. However, don't expect that passing game to produce results until the staff is willing to allow the QBs to, as Les likes to say (but not do in practice) "let 'er rip"

So you are saying that we had horrible quarterbacks on campus. Why did we give those guys scholarships instead of finding good quarterbacks?

I think we should run the ball on first down and second down. And you know what, probably on third down too.

They want it both ways. They want to give Miles an excuse for poor qb play because they are young, but they also ignore that Miles is in charge of keeping the roster full with capable quarterbacks.

Personally, I don't think it's the ability as much as it is the system. In return, the system doesn't attract the upper level quarterbacks. Now I think Harris can be an upper level quarterback, so we were fortunate to have a home state guy that wanted to come to LSU.

We've had 3 weeks of bowl preparation, one bowl game, an entire spring practice/game period, summer drills, fall camp, and now 8 weeks of a college football season to develop a serviceable passing game. Shame on the coaches for neglecting it.

You've got a point! We know CC is capable of developing a QB, see Mett, but what is going on now is above my pay scale of figuring out. Maybe its a combination of all involved. I wasn't there to see, but Gordy said on the post-game show that the young receivers were having a hard time getting of the jams at the LOS and are going to have to get better at this. Maybe some of you who were there would elaborate on the accuracy of this statment.

We have WRs and TEs running wide open every pass play. But since our QB decides who he wants to throw it to before the snap and never looks for anyone else...it would seem trying to establish the run would be the best bet. Don't need to start game with turnovers.

But running from a slightly more spread out formation would be nice for a change. Too many damn bodies at LOS...including OURS

I pretty much agree with the general assessment of AJ, but you guys also have to remember, he had virtually no playing time last year. He got in the Arkansas game at the end and then played the bowl game, and only played a quarter against New mexico. So realistically he has played 6 games, 3 of them against SEC opponents. Yes, I wish he had gotten more playing time last season during blowouts, but we all know that's not how this staff operates, right or wrong. So we are growing at the QB position along with these young receivers.

And also, one good positive is that of the few throws that were good for AJ, one of them was to the TE. Would be great if he starts to view that as a security blanket and looks for it a bit more..

Yeah they're purposefully neglecting the passing game because they hate passing.
