there used to be a time when les miles had good offenses here at LSU, (05-07). we had really good, championship defenses then, too. so my question is, what changed since then? is it the QB? is it the OC? why are we so determined to run, run, run, punt and lean on the D so much?

im not saying we need an oregon/OU type offense, just something with a respectable passing game. itll keep other defenses from putting 9 in the box, and we can still pound the ball with big backs and a big OL. i think our pound the rock, ball control mentality is enough to win alot of games, but i dont think this offense is championship caliber, but i think it can be. thats why i dont understand why the coaches(miles!) are so adamantly against passing the ball.

for example, whens the last time we ran a screen? the last one i can think of specifically was against tOSU in the BCSCG (to chuck scott up the middle, runs down the sideline as hes stiff arming malcolm jenkins). weres the bootleg game? those are easy passes, but we dont run them. we run play action, but its hardly effective when we run the pitch lead- no pitch back to the RB, PASS! do we have a draw in the playbook other than a zone read we almost always hand off to?

im just curious why hes so willing to devalue such an important phase of the game. i know our defense is amazing. they look like a special group. but why cant we pair them with an average offense? why does it have to be only defense/special teams and offense dont frick up? whay are we determined to run a 1950s style offense? IMO, its different if hes a defensive guy, and doesnt trust QBs, and he just wants to use the D to win ball games, but les is an offensive guy, yet doesnt want to maximize the offense. i just dont get it...

i know, i know. :rantard: and tl;dr and PIIHB and DWI

Have you not watched us run WR screens this year?

I think all goes back to trust in his QB. He hasn't had it since Flynn left.

like bubble screens? i mean a QB drop backwards, OL holds for mississippi 1, lets go of DL/ a true screen. an NFL screen.

This is the best D we've had since 03. No one outside of Bama can beat us if we score more than 14 points. We're averaging over 30 a game. You wasted your time with this dissertation

is he never going to trust a QB again? does he need to recruit better QBs? will krags fix this eventually? is there an actual solution?

When Perrilloux fricked us.

Having a good offense is for the weak

it was ok. i really hurt us in the red zone, hence the FGs. im not sure we can beat the elite teams in CFB kicking those FGs

Agreed and I would add trust in the D. '08 was a tough class in Les's edcuation.

If JL continues to mature, I think he'll open things up more. We were even throwing it on every down vs MSU with the score 9-6.

We had different QB's in those days. Lee scares the shite out of Miles. Why risk J Lee throwing picks sixes? I think our offense has improved from last year. Whenever LSU wins the turnover battle, they usually win the game. So why risk turning the ball over?

but its a chicken or egg deal. you cant get kids drafted if youre not throwing it. i would say RR2 is as talented as any WR weve had, but doesnt get the touches.

Is Lee really capable of handling pressure well enough for that?

b/c theres going to be times when we dont win the TO battle. there will be times, like last year against awburn and arkansas when the D needed help from the offense. they couldnt do it. it all looks fine now-- we went 11-2 in '10, but i dont think we maximized the talent on our team

Rueben's problem isn't the play calling, its his work ethic.

well, thats our starting QB. if he cant, i would argue the wrong guy is starting. but thats a whole different thread
