Why does your mom call it a rim "job" when I don't pay her for it?

good analysis. What years did pro teams mainly line up with two TE's and the RB's in an I formation with 1 wr and with the o-line packed in tight and run mainly off tackle plays and inside pitch plays into defenses with 9 in the box as a regular practice on 1st and 10, and 2nd and 10? Also would doing this be called a pro-set or a pro-style offense as there seems to be some confusion on this point?

watching Cleveland/saints game. Not seeing much 1 wr sets with RB's lined up in an I and two TE, pro-style formations by either team.

We did run the pro set at times last night from the shotgun, but the offense you described is a simple I with one wide. This is the formation everyone is bitching about.

Its not called pro set if the qb is in the gun

The first evolution from the classic pro set began with three wide receiver sets, (WR for one RB), two tight ends for short yardage. I'm not familiar with exactly who pioneered these changes and when.

George Allen, when he coached the Rams from 1966-1970, is generally credited with using the "nickel" defense, ie bringing in an extra defensive back to modify the classic 4-3 defense still widely used in the NFL, and pioneered by Tom Landry, when he was defensive coordinator for the New York Giants under Jim Lee Howell in the late fifties. By the way, the Giants' offensive coordinator during that tmne was Vince Lombardi.

Again, with only 40 man rosters, specialized passing and short yardage formations were limited in scope. Substitutes back then were mainly for when a starter got injured, or to rest starters at the end of a blowout.

very interesting, so it has probably been a while since one wr sets were the standard base pro set offense in the pros?

what about pro style of play when it comes to play calling? do pro teams still generally line up in a pro style I formation with 2 TE's, 1 wr and run right at defenses who have stacked 9 in the box on 1st and 2nd down with 10 yards to go?

Ironically I told all my pals and family that I hope having a quality OC here leads us to running this pro-set with our squad this year

you're right with hilliard and fournette it puts our best players on the field

hilliard can be a load fullbacking for fournette both blocking and getting the qick hits up the gut on opposing D's

plus every few plays we can put fournette in motion and line him up in the slot and such and go w a one back set w Hilliard

Mcgee can play the same position as fournette as well as our other freshman sharing time with hilliard

you still seem to be struggling with what the term "pro-style" means...

I wonder if the Saints would like to pitch a shut out and win 31-0.

Hell, I bet SP wishes he wouldn't have chunked it 40 times while running for 6+ a clip.....call it what you want...and we haven't run a pro set that I have noticed.

but one thing that has been made clear is that we don't run a "pro-style" offense and rarely line up in what could be called a "pro set"

Since when did a WR stop being a receiver? Did you mean
wide receiver receiver sets?
