Granted I don't follow gymnastics much but why is it that we've had so much success in the last 6ish years compared to before? Did we suddenly start investing more in the program? I'm not trying to be negative about DDs time here before then I'm just genuinely curious what started to click to make us so consistently elite recently.

Better resources (more money invested in gymnastics) and Jay Clark

Both contributed to way better talent coming to LSU

Its not like she was ever a bad coach, just didn't quite have that talent for the next level. Talent is an essential in this sport

Better question might be how was she as successful as she was without so much support over the years? No doubt adding Jay Clark tot he program was a huge turning point.

what I love about DD is that she is all for LSU. NO matter what the sport, she is so supportive of all the other LSU sports. I don't know if you can say that about all of our coaches but sure can say it about DD. Thanks DD you are a true Tiger through and through.

And she was in the same league with Alabama and Georgia, who combined to be the equivalent of UConn women's basketball for most of the 90's and 2000's. DD got Clark, and Alabama and Georgia's coaches both retired. DD kept plugging along and now it's her turn.

I've seen this quite a bit. Why doesn't LSU just make Clark the head coach and save a bunch of money?

he was the head coach at Georgia after their legendary coach Yoculan stepped down he took over a stacked program and they went backwards a bit in different areas.

Their program took a step back and failed to make super six his last three years as coach.

I think Jay is an excellent bars coach but his best asset is a recruiter. You can recruit well but in terms of management and schemes of routines of the overall team, its very different.

DD has proven she can manage and develop all events, the last pieces she needed was more top recruits. It has happened due to new facilities and new culture, as well as Clark.

We could do the same with the football program and just let Aranda be head coach and bench O, we would save money

If Aranda was the head coach the defense would probably suffer because of it. The 30+ years of suckage by the gymnastics team can't be erased.

You can't be serious

Your hatred of DD is interesting. You expect her to build a championship team working with shitty facilities, a small recruiting budget?

And whats funny is even with that she still always fielded top ten teams nationally. Bama and Georgia, even Florida invested a shite load more money than LSU did over the past 30 years.

If LSU football worked with that little money and shite facilities, do you honestly expect them to be that successful? They wouldn't be

It's really not DD's improvement, it's the UGA assistant who will undoubtedly SOON take over the program.

It's the same loose cannon DD, and LSU built facilities that would attract the best.

Let's be clear, DD is affable and nice, if you will, but her competency in the SEC yielded 1 SEC-C in 40 years. Soooooooooooooooooo.......

That assistant is the reason for LSU's surge, PLUS THE FACILITY RECRUITMENT, IMHO, DD is just window dressing with her shiny outfits, acting like a geriatric cheerleader.

Did you think your comments were so profound you just had to share them twice?

I think there are a few people who apparently have little else to do but try and rattle the cages of the gymnastics fans. I think we would be wise to just ignore said losers. No more replies, no more downvotes. That's what I'll do at least. Maybe they'll find another way to amuse themselves if we quit giving them the attention they crave.

Sarah Patterson, Suzanne Yoculan and Rhonda Faehn all retired/left and were replaced by poor replacements. DD was smart enough to have hired the assistants.

Rhonda Faehn

When DD retires she would easily be my first pick for her replacement. She actually loves LSU and follows us quite a bit. Brilliant coach, curious what her new role will be with Valeri Liukin stepping down. She was the other choice for national team coordinator. USA gymnastics is in such a disarray that I can't predict what will happen next.

I honestly don't see how Duckworth will last at Bama. Yoculan is back as a volunteer assistant coach for Georgia trying to help start back up that program.

Faehn is rumored to be resigning too.

I’m surprised to hear she loves LSU, but I guess you would know :)

She competed at UCLA but I don't see Val leaving soon, she loves her job too much

Yea I'm pretty good friends with Faehn, wonderful person! We chatted about LSU at the P&G championships this past year, she loves what the program is now and the type of athletes we can bring in now!

Not sure why Faehn is getting heat, she literally joined onto USA gymnastics pretty late. Not sure who will run the USA national team, maybe Chow might. He does a great job with development, Shawn Johnson and Gabby Douglas were good examples.

There is just so much pressure to clean house at USAG. I read a rumor that Chow was going back to China to be a national coach.

I’ve also read that Weiber is being groomed to take over for Miss Val, but, like you said, no time soon.
