Why I think Alleva's handling of the situation was a worst case scenario

First of all, this is nothing about whether you like Miles or hate him, want him to stay or want him to go.

Anyway..

Alleva basically came out and said that Les has 1 year to get it straight, or he's gone. Not the glowing support that you would want. Now recruits are going to see the writing on the wall that they are signing a 3 year contract to possibly play for their coach for 1 year. If they don't see it, it'll absolutely be told to them by other coaches.

Alleva massively fricked this whole thing up.

He is a complete fricking idiot and they need to take a serious look at firing him. Anyone who doesn't see that is equally as incompetent.

Basically let his "first choice" and Head Football coach hang out to dry all damn week.

I can't imagine a way in which this could have been handled in a poorer manner. The dude stays silent for two weeks as the university is dragged through the mud on a national level; then 10 minutes after a meaningless victory he pulls this chickenshit. Unbelievable.

If Miles was always the coach, then he should have said it 2 weeks ago.

Didn't hear Alleva say anything about a year, but it was cut off. What did he say?

Every other AD would've given the proverbial "vote of confidence" in the HC 2 weeks ago when the rumors were flying. Not sure what Alleva was doing, and I know that he didn't know either.

But it was obvious he wasn't. That's the problem. We look worse by not just doing one or the other and doing it confidently.

Its safe to assume that Les only has 1 year to get it right. This would be fine if the entire nation and every recruit didn't know about it

You are correct. I think this wont likely impact instate guys a great deal, but frankly if it helps even one recruit to flip from LSU, that would be on Alleva. For that and many other reasons. Alleva should be fired.

He didn't say anything about "one year".

He needs to go. A coach shouldn't be in the dark until after the last game. One report suggests the decision was made in the 3rd quarter of tonight's game! An AD that can't handle business better than that needs to go!

Couldn't have been handled any worse. Alleva had a plan that cratered so he had no choice but to stay with Miles.

You are correct. At any point in the last two weeks, he could have come out and said "Les is our coach, he is under contract, and like we do every year with every coach, we will evaluate after the season". But he didn't say a goddamn thing. He just let this bubble up for two weeks, and then acts like "wait nothing is happening" tonight.

Meanwhile the press is doing what the press does - digging up negative crap.

It's as if he learned nothing from how he handled the Lacrosse thing.
