Let us forget the past. What can the average LSU fan do or request from the Athletic Administration to get this ship riding again in LSU basketball. This year is not over, I concede, but it does look like it will be a major rebuilding project to get on par with UNC, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Florida, Texas, and Texas. The honest question that I have is this. Does the adminstration, under Joe Alleva want to do everything possible to market the program under Trent Johnson ? I believe coach Johnson is the main reason why the potential is high, that a very successful program year in and year out can be built. I believe we have a good coach. Maybe the facilities can be updated or maybe Trent can add to his staff in some way to benefit recruiting. I know this isn't getting fixed overnight but I would like to see the true LSU fans, including myself, to show up for the home games this year. I would like for the program to excel, I just do not know if there is a desire to make it great instead of just good. I would welcome any suggestions how this program can one day be on par with UNC and Duke. And how we can be strong in the three major sports like Texas and Florida. Happy New Year to all.

The continued escalating cost to support the football program over the past decade has had a corresponding negative impact upon basketball support. There are only so many discretionary sports dollars in the BR area and more and more go to football. Baseball and women's basketball have also had some impact although the actual cost for those games is relatively low in comparison to football and men's basketball. The administration finally put together low cost packages last season and men's basketball attendance improved, also aided by the SEC championship season. Now it is again back to normal. It will be curious to see what happens when league play begins next week.

How many games did Kendrick Brown play for the Tigers? Tack Minor was an elite player? Magnum Rolle was an elite player? They did squat at LSU. So either Brady couldn't properly evaluate players, or he couldn't coach even an elite player worth a damn. I'll give you, Tiger20, the choice.

Kendrick Brown was a junior college All American and I believe player of the year, Tack Minor was a top 25 rated player and Magnum Rolle was a top 20 recruit when they were signed so they do qualify as elite players at the recruiting stage. Not every elite recruit develops into a big star in college due to multiple factors. So if you want to just cherry pick recruits that did not live up to their billing we can do that for every coach and program.

Why don't you list those elite recruits who did become star college performers? List is a helluva lot longer for Brady.

No, Kendrick Brown never played at LSU as he became the first JUCO player in history to become an NBA lottery pick. Was that Brady's fault? If anything it confirmed his evaluative skills.

Tack Minor was an improving player and may have become an All SEC performer had he not gotten dismissed from school for academic impropriety. Was that Brady's fault? You can claim he should have been more selective in recruiting, but given the fact that LSU basketball had deteriorated from 1994 through 2002 at the close of Brown's career and through draconian sanction LSU was not in a position to be too selective.

Magnum Rolle had a good freshman year backing up Big Baby and Tyrus then somehow got in his head that he was the next Kevin Durant. While he has been a good player at La Tech he may have developed into a great low post player like Bass, Davis, Thomas, Swift, Dupree, Randolph if he had remained under Brady's tutelage.

I believe the record is very clear that
Brady can coach elite players who are willing to accept coaching and work on developing their game while putting the interest of the team ahead of their own selfish agendas.

I supported Brady but couldn't understand going in the ditch the last two years... ala Jerry Dinardo, he couldn't get out. I was 50-50 on whether to give him another year.

Trent has proven he can coach talent.. the question is, can he recruit enough of it. The answer begins next year with this incoming class.

It had become in the best interest of Brady and LSU to part ways.

Agreed. He has recruited some talented players , but no super star top 25 type player yet. History has shown that LSU has had it's most successful seasons when there was a big time player leading the way. Right now the recruiting appears to be Vanderbilt south, not bad but not enough to reach the upper echelon.

And there's the two edge sword... I remember when K. Stallings, the Vandy coach, talked about LSU whining because they lost Stromile Swift. Stallings said he wished VU could sign a Stromile Swift. You only keep NBA players for two years now tops... but it takes those to get you to the Final 4.

Vanderbilt has won 3 Sec titles in it's history, the last in 1993. Stallings best SEC season has benn 10-6.

John Brady recruited 3 SEC championship teams and coached 2 of them in the 8 year span of
2000-2007.

Stallings is revered and Brady is reviled.

Strange world we live in.
