I’m not arguing Simmons is Mr. LSU or should be the all-time ambassador for LSU or anything. But how did Simmons use LSU? He clearly wanted to go straight to the NBA (which is reasonable), but he couldn’t, so he came here for a year. And while it was a highly disappointing year for the team, he still put up amazing numbers and likely made the University a lot of money.

One still reps LSU nearly a decade after leaving. The other forgot LSU 3 days after he left...
I like Simmons but to compare the two is a bit much.

Because Ben was an arrogant, dislikable douche with no personality and Tyrann is a really cool guy who seems like he’d be fun to hang out with. That pretty much sums up what makes fans “like” some players more than others

Why is it always phrased we hate Ben rather than Ben didn't want any part of being here and wants to forget it as being something he was forced to do. He was from a foreign country and then another state and only had one connection to us and that was his godfather being a coach here. Ben was extremely talented but made no attempt to fit in with his teammates or the coaches system.
Tyrann was a Louisiana native who loved Louisiana and LSU. He felt lucky to be here and played his heart out every game. Rather than just collecting statistics, the Honey Badger won games! Huge difference!

Simmons has openly said that college is a waste of time. He mailed it in here. He quit the team, to the point we had to decline an NIT bid. He was a distraction that never had any attention of raising the level of the program.
Mathieu was one of the best to ever to put on purple and gold, got kicked off the team and still donated over $1M to the program

Matthieu was absolutely electric on a team that was buttfricking almost everyone. Undoubtedly the best player we’ve had in my lifetime. LA born and bred.

Tyrann grew up and really transformed himself after his mistakes. He has given back to the university and hasn't screwed up ever since he got kicked off the team.

The Rant hates Ben Simmons because he was the first modern era basketball player that was good enough to be a “one and done” and said what all of those type of guys were thinking, that college is a complete waste of time for them (which it is). Guy committed to and played for arguably the worst head coach of any of the 3 major sports in the history of LSU over going to any of the major powerhouse basketball programs across the country. He should get some love, if only for that.

If you’re asking, you haven’t done your homework. I also don’t think folks “hate” Ben. He disappointed though.
