Why does it seem LSU is reluctant to start Fr Qb's?

Then let your staff develop them as they gain experience, rather than go the JUCO route or portal for QB'S. Then you have the probability of 3-4 year starter at the position.

Perhaps just perhaps freshmen walker and daddy asked for a red shirt and perhaps he is truly third string behind JD and Nuss.

Or we could just be stubborn and refuse to play the best players

LSU is reluctant to start any QB that can throw a forward pass, not just freshmen

You also have the probability of losing games you should’ve won for 2 years and not being able to recruit QBs.

In rare instances (Caleb Williams) they are ready, but most times they are not, esp in this conference.

Coaches play the best players. Some players don’t like it and transfer.

As Mike Tomlin says, “we want volunteers, not hostages.”

So you’re upset that Kelly plays the best player?

Because you play the best player in that moment that gives your team the best chance to win the games. That’s rarely the freshman QB.

Football isn’t about two years from now; it’s about today.

The dude fumbled the first snap in the bowl game.

I get the argument for Nuss starting, but Walker Howard has shown nothing. Y’all are only going off his high school ranking

Reluctant to start a QB that will lose you most of the games he starts?
Bold strategy

Coaches are expected to win EVERY game. Games aren’t where you give freshman reps by allowing them to start over players that give you the best chance of winning…..especially when you’re backup is still in need of game reps.

Reluctant? Do you think a coach will sit the best player? Maybe our freshman QBs have not been worthy. I trust a coach more than a fan.

Good plan, mouthbreather. Every season Kelly will just start the true freshman they just signed. Should work out great.

Because the staff, you know, the professionals in charge, have determined a freshman QB doesn’t give LSU the best probability of a win.

Saban had a quote a few years ago on “saving” players for a future game. He said you play all of the players who give you the best chance of winning the next game. Not the game after, or the season after.

If you’re worried about QBs transferring, you’d have to start a different freshman every single year.

…and they’d still end up transferring.

Wait you watched Walker in the spring game and bowl game and are wondering why he didn't start?

Maybe we can get the Zachary kid at bama to come home. I think he was a national top 50 player. He will probably sit at bama 2 more years.

Wouldn't be surprised - Depends on how good Ty Simpson is and and he'll have Sayin right behind him

So basically run a training camp rather than playing to win?

Idk but
Jamarcus
Jordan Jefferson
Jarrett Lee
Max Johnson
All started as true freshman

Brennan
Nuss
All played as true freshman

I cannot think of a Alabama QB that started as a true freshman.

Only 1 true freshman has won a national championship.

1 redshirt freshman (Jameis) has won the national championship.

No team has started a true freshman in the CFP era. (Tua played the second half of the 15th game of the year)

Which was awesome. I'd love to see my coach make that move when it matters most. LSU would never, ever, do that.

I think the Clemson QB next year is going to be awesome as a RS Fr. I assume he still qualifies for the RS. Not fully sure how many games he played in. Bryce won a Heisman in his 2nd season? I think these great QBs can play and have success early.
