Why do so many people get, then sell, their season tickets?

Why do so many people do this? Doesn't even look like they are making any money.

If you get rid of the tickets it'll be very hard to get tickets again. Plus they might want to hold onto them only for very promising years.

I have season tickets and went to every game last year, but I could have easily paid for the entire season by just selling the Bama tickets.

Do you get any kind of taf points for the money that you spend on the tickets and their required donations?

This is such a popular opinion from season ticket holders who don't sell, including my family.

Long of the short, no you couldn't. You could have put a nice dent in the expense, but you wouldn't have covered the whole year.

I imagine a lot of them are like me. I have 13 really good seats. For the last dozen or so years until recently I sold all but 2 which are for me and my son. I sold some to business associates and kept some for my business. In the last few years I finally got some family members to buy some.

My grandpa has had 10 season tickets for well over 50 years. Part of that was due to being from a large family and wanting to be able to bring his brothers. He also had a business and used his tickets to entertain. He even has a court case on the books when an old business partner tried to get "his share" of the tickets when the business sold.

Now, about half get used by myself and other family. The rest typically are sold to a family friend. Maybe one game a year the whole family gets together for a game.

Some have more tickets than they can use. They still buy them for the TAF points then sell them off.

Simply having a large number of tickets doesn't really get you very many TAF points. You have to give more than the required "donation" to have a good number of TAF points status.

ETA: You can downvote, but our TAF points with 10 tickets got us end zone nose bleed seats at UF in 2008 and obstructed view seats at Jerry World in 2011.

It's a status thing. Even if you sell them all and only go to the Auburn game, you can still say you have season tickets.

This is my 36th year to have season tickets. I will reorder mine as long as I am alive. I am in the habit of giving away tickets to games I don't care about (Chattanooga, Troy, and Syracuse this season). I give them to young LSU fans who normally do not have access to LSU tickets.

Ironically, I find it easier to go to away games like State, Auburn, and Ole Miss as compared to getting to and from Tiger Stadium.

This year I will go to BYU, State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, and Texas A&M.

Seems like a lot more people are selling them on the ticket exchange than years past imo. Maybe I'm wrong.

I was considering selling my pair (could use the money elsewhere), but I know I'd regret it afterwards. I enjoy a nice Saturday in BR with the family.

You are investing I can the future and keep them in your name. Some people live out of state or have kids in private school and can afford to go.

It's a matter of time, not just number of tickets. My brother moved back to Louisiana around 1985, and the only way he could get four good season tickets was to join TAF. No one even knew what TAF was back then. But 32 years later, he's got an extremely high because he's been "paying in" for so long.

Also - some people sell off their season tickets to keep them in their name. I buy two season grandstand seats from a friend for LSU baseball, then sell off the pair of bleacher seats in my name. If my friend kicks the bucket or we have a falling out, I don't want to be ticketless. Plus I pick up minor Tradition Fund and Visa points.

I sold my tickets when I lived in Georgia for a few years. I just wanted to break even. That way I still got my TAF points, I was able to get tickets to other Tiger fans who might not get them, and I still had them when I moved back to Louisiana.
