Had it not been for a few stellar defensive plays, we would not have won a game, and the score would have been way up there. They left a ton of guys on base, and the bases loaded several times.

We couldn't find anyone to close that game out. None of them had control. They deserve a little blame.

Which game did we have a late lead and lost the game? You can't expect to hold the opponents to less than 3 runs every game. At some point, it would be nice for the offense to carry the load.

I agree about the offense, but who went in and controlled the mound other than Nola and maybe Cartwright? Would you honestly give the pitching staff a high grade if you take those two out?

For the weekend, no. For the entire season, yes, a very high grade. The amount of pressure put onto our pitching staff is absurdly high. Nola has to go out on Friday's and give us 8+ innings of 1 run or less pitching. The rest of the weekend we are just hoping to keep the game close so that something good happens for us at the end.

You can't expect this pitching staff to dominate every weekend, yet they are pretty much expected to if we want to win a series.

Because from a fan's mentality, hitters win games and pitchers lose games.

Many can only see that the bullpen gave up a homerun in the bottom of the 8th of a tie game. So to them, the home run beat us. Reality is, we kept squandering scoring opportunities (Ibarra's one out triple comes to mind) and therefore did not have a lead in the bottom of the 8th.

The bullpen has done the job most of the season and pitched pretty decent this series, with Broussard being the exception. He has been dominant all year and had a terrible weekend. I'm not putting blame on him, but he is the guy we have come to expect to shut down the opposition late in games. He didn't show up this weekend.

Your question assumes that the blame only belongs in one place. It's a common failure of the simple minded ranter.

The pitchers over the last two weeks have been very shaky. And, as it relates to how they are going to perform going forward, I think it's very reasonable to be concerned about their performance.

This is pretty much it. Overall our pitching is good, but the moment one of them slips a win is improbable if not altogether impossible.
